Concannon Conservancy Crimson & Clover Wine Review

The story of this wine if truly wonderful. This wine was created as a tribute.
Check out this great story from the Concannon Website

Conservancy Crimson and Clover, was created as a tribute to my father, Jim Concannon, the father of America’s First Petite Sirah and presented to him at a celebration of his 80th birthday which was held at Concannon Vineyard on July 25, 2011.

The name Crimson & Clover reflects pride in our Irish heritage; the clover is the traditional Irish symbol for prosperity and crimson pays homage to the strong, bright, deep red color of the blend. This wine is unique in the Conservancy tier as the first Petite Sirah blend and consists of 50 percent Petite Sirah, 25 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 15 percent Syrah and l0 percent Zinfandel. Crimson & Clover upholds the virtues of a Petite Sirah while adding rich deep berry flavors, softness and complexity. 10,000 cases will be produced.

Crimson & Clover is the first blend and the fifth wine in the Conservancy portfolio. All Concannon Conservancy wines are sourced 100% from grapes grown in precious Livermore vineyards that are protected from urban encroachment by a conservation trust that preserves the land for perpetuity. All the Conservancy wines are terroir-driven with an emphasis on balancing fruit with wine-making style. The Tri-Valley Conservancy now has over 3,100 acres.

Conservancy wines are the ultimate embodiment of our desire to preserve our winemaking heritage and ensure that future generations experience my great-grandfather’s vision of rich and flavorful wines in every glass. These distinctive wines were crafted to reflect their true varietal character as shaped by Livermore’s austere, rocky soil and unique climate. The Conservancy collection also includes Petite Sirah, Merlot, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. All Conservancy wines are nationally distributed with an SRP of $15 which is well within my great-grandfather’s vision of offering hand-crafted wines at a reasonable price.

Review

We enjoyed this bottle of wine with friends last week. Everyone really enjoyed the flavor of this wine. It paired perfectly with our dinner. I really enjoyed sharing the story of the wine with friends. I think knowing the story really enhanced our enjoyment of this great wine.  I also love that this wine is part of the conservancy collection. These wines help protect California Vineyard land from urban development. The lands used to create this wine and other conservancy wines is in a trust that protects against development forever. I love that you can protect important vineyard lands just be enjoying a nice bottle of wine.

For those of you who love recipes make sure you check out the Concannon Family Recipes here. I can’t wait to try out a few of these recipes.

I was provided with a bottle of Concannon Conservancy to help facilitate my review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
