BlogHer’12 – 2 Weeks until NYC
Wow! 2 weeks from right now I will be on my way to NYC for my first BlogHer experience. BlogHer is a conference with over 4500 bloggers from all around the world. This year it is being held in New York City. I am so excited, nervous, and so many more emotions as I get ready for this event. I have been reading updates from bloggers all around the world on what past conferences are like and what to expect. I am thankful that this is not my first conference that I have attended. I attended the Blissdom conference in Nashville this year and went to many conferences for my old job. I hope that this experience helps with Blogher.
One of the things I have been reading a lot about is people’s behavior at the conference. Many companies will be represented at the conference. Everything from Wholly Guacamole, Microsoft Windows, Harley Davidson and more will be there to connect with bloggers. I am so shocked at some of the things I have been reading the past few days. One part of me expects to walk into the convention center and see woman piling on top of each other brawling for a free stress ball and another part expects me to see woman with clubs and high heels yelling at everyone to be nice and not take to much. As you can imagine when you get 4500 bloggers who are primarily female in one place there is going to be drama, drama, tears and oh yes more drama. I just never expected it to start weeks and weeks ahead of time. I am starting to feel worn out and a bit exhausted while reading tons of Facebook messages about people saying they are going to take others to task and tell them they are being stupid. I kind of feel like if the person is being stupid it is going to show and let them build their own issues. Why get involved and look like you are a crazy person at the same time. I fully understand if it is a dangerous situation and someone might get hurt by all means step in and make sure everyone is safe. But if someone is acting like a crazy fool over a stress ball and I have no idea who they are I plan to just smile and nod and keep on my way. Each persons actions are going to reflect on them not on you. Yes I get that they are not a good representation for blogging as a whole but in every job, community, and event there are people that just don’t get that their actions have an equal and sometimes greater reaction.
My philosophy is you never know who you are talking to. You never know what their background is, who they work for, what they do on their spare time or who they are connected to when you first meet them. My goal is to be ME and not be anything other than the best ME possible. I hope that BlogHer is a chance to re-connect with blogging friends I met in Nashville and meet many more blogging friends in person. I hope that BlogHer is a chance to meet and connect with amazing brands that I hope to work with in the future. I am beyond excited to re-connect with my favorite reps from Microsoft Windows. Kristina and Jessica are amazing and I will have the chance to attend a private event with them! CRAZY!!!
Don’t get me wrong I am just as nervous as I am excited for Blogher. I am not really sure what I will be wearing to the event and it is only 2 weeks away. I am pretty comfortable with my day time attire for the convention hall and breakfast. It is the night time events that have me a little puzzled/worried/scared and so on. I don’t want to be the girl in jeans while everyone else is in sparkly tutus or ball gowns and look like I walked off the street asking for directions and was not invited to the event. I have been fortunate to be invited to a couple of truly amazing private events. I am so excited for these events but really have no clue what to wear. What does one wear to a private small gathering at a rooftop bar in NYC. Did I mention that the rooftop bar looks crazy amazing and oh so chic, expensive, classy and oh yes amazing! If you have any suggestions on what to wear I would love to hear them. I don’t get to spend much time attending events on NYC Rooftop Bars in my day to day life.
Don’t get me wrong I am not a bundle of nerves shaking in my office scared to get on the plane I am crazy over the top excited for this event. I get to spend 4 days with some of my favorite people in the same place. I talk with many of these bloggers daily on Facebook, Twitter and our blogs and have yet to meet them in real life. I can’t wait to hear what their voices sound like, find out what they are really like and spend quality face to face time with them. It is amazing to me still that you can create wonderful friendships with people and yet you have never met them in real life. A few of the people I can’t wait to hug when I get to NYC include
Laura from Another Cent Saved – Oh my goodness Laura has to be one of the sweetest people in the world. She would bend over backwards and twirl a baton if she thought it would help you out. She is so caring, loving and truly an amazing friend. I had the chance to meet Laura in Nashville this past year and know that she will be a friend for life.
Michele from Money Saving Michele – Michele and I have had the chance to work together on some truly amazing projects. We got on the phone a few weeks ago and hours passed without us knowing it as we were working on a project. I can’t wait to see her in person and plan out future events and fun.
Patti from Shore Saving with Patti – I have never met Patti in person and can’t wait to give her a huge hug. She is amazing! I have an image in my head of a New Jersey Spitfire with great attitude and charisma.
There are so many other amazing bloggers that I am excited to see that it would take up an entire page or 2 to list them.
I did order a really cute grocery tote with the Tammilee Tips logo on it to get ready for BlogHer. I figure if I am going to be walking through the convention center why not be a walking billboard for the blog. Everyone can see from far away what blog I represent and hopefully smile at the pig and palm tree logo.
All in all I am crazy excited with a tad bit of nerves as I think of my upcoming trip to BlogHer. I really hope that this trip brings amazing times, lots of laughter, the opportunity to connect with wonderful brands, and more. I know there will be crazy drama but my goal is to steer far far away from the drama and head towards the fun and good times.
Will I see you at Blogher? Let me know if you will be at BlogHer I love to meet other bloggers. Have you been before? What advice do you have for a first time attendee?
