Latah Creek Winery Dinner
Last night John and I had the opportunity to have dinner with the owners/winemakers at Latah Creek Winery here in Spokane. John won their 30th Anniversary celebration dinner. I have to tell you this was an amazing evening for us. We brought my parents and a close friend with us to enjoy the dinner. Mike, Ellena and Natalie are amazing hosts and so knowledgeable about wine. We started the evening with yummy appetizers and a taste test of wine. We learned how the addition of acid to wine completely changes the flavor. It was fascinating to tastes the wine as the acid was added and also as the wine had been sitting taking in more oxygen. The wine tasted completely different as dinner went on.
We learned about how corks are made and the different types of corks. I was not aware that depending on the type of wine you are buying the cork is shorter or longer based on how long the wine sits on the shelf. It was fascinating to learn about the types of corks and that cork farms are a multi-generational family business. Many cork farms in Italy are manged by family’s that learn the craft from their parents and grandparents.
Ellena, Mike and Natalie were amazing hosts. I can’t thank them enough for making our evening a truly amazing experience.
My parents drove over from Seattle and joined us for dinner. It was a great family evening. The evening was filled with laughter, great food, and so much fun. This was truly a once in a lifetime dinner that we will never forget.
