Wine Tasting at Sea on Princess Cruises
During our Panama Canal cruise we participated in wine tasting at sea. Princess has a Princess Grapevine program that offers wine tasting while at sea. It was only $9.50 a person and included 5 different wines and a cute souvenir Princess shot glass.
We tasted five different wines included 2 white wines, 2 reds and a dessert wine. The sommelier on board explained the flavors of each wine and how to bring out the best flavor in the wine. We were shown how to check the color and clarity of the wine to know where it is at in the aging process. We talked about the notes of the wine and how it smells to each person.
The wines were paired with a selection of cheese and crackers along with a personal cheesecake. The cheese really enhanced the flavors of the red wine. I think my favorite pairing was the dessert wine and cheesecake. I was amazed at how the pairing really brought out the flavor of the wine and cheesecake.
The presentation took close to 45 minutes and was a lot of fun. I would definitely attend another event the next time we are on board a Princess cruise. During the cruise they had a couple of other wine events that we missed but will definitely look at during our next cruise.
I love being able to learn about wine while cruising along the open seas. It was a great educational and fun experience during our sea days.
