I am still getting used to Windows 8. So far I really like it! I am loving the apps that you can get for free! It reminds me of using my phone and looking for apps. I have to admit it is still taking me a bit to get used to not having a start button on my computer. One thing I really like about Windows 8 is how easy it is to customize. You can set up your screen to fit your needs and not just a base model.
My home screen on my main computer has a lot less on it than the Microsoft Surface. I use my main computer as my work computer and really try to keep it as streamlined as possible for blogging. Though I did add in a few really fun apps. The Microsoft Surface I will take with us traveling and use while we are watching tv at night. I have added a few more games and fun apps to the Surface.
Here are a few of my favorite free apps
The Oprah Winfrey Network
This app is filled with great articles including many frugal living articles. I enjoy reading Suze Orman’s tips for saving money and living frugally. Each day there is a new quote on the app. I try and take a moment to read the quote each day and enjoy it. Today’s quote is “What you risk reveals what you value” by Jeanette Winterson.
Allrecipes
Recipes, Recipes and more Recipes!!! Everything you can think of can be found on Allrecipes. I could spend hours reading recipes and finding new ones to try on this app.
Everyday Food
Tons of fantastic recipes from the intense to super easy! Easy to understand steps and accessible ingredients.
Cocktail Flow
Cocktail Flow is filled with fantastic cocktail recipes! You can sort by what ingredients you have on hand or even what color drink you would like to prepare. What I really like about this app is you can enter everything you have in your bar into the app and it tells you what you can make. John and I were thinking we needed to add more to our tiki bar. When we entered what we already had into the app it told us there was more than 40 drinks we could make. This is more than enough to keep us going for a long time. We were able to look at how many additional drinks we would be able to make by adding specific liquor to the tiki bar. It turned out that it was not worth spending the money to only be able to make 1 or 2 more drinks.
Kayak Flights and Hotels
When it comes to travel I love being able to search multiple sites and get the lowest price possible. The Kayak app gives you the chance to compare hundreds of travel sites in one place
Alaska Airlines
We fly Alaska Airlines as often as we possibly can. I use this app to check prices, look for deals, dream of new vacation spots and track our flights.
What are your favorite Windows 8 apps?
I am a member of Microsoft Windows Champions for 2013. I will be working with Microsoft over the next year. Microsoft has provided me with a Microsoft Surface to help facilitate my reviews. All opinions expressed are my own.

LOL I think it’s funny, I’m still looking for my button to close apps. I’m really liking having windows on my tablet though. It’s like carrying my laptop with me everywhere but it’s easier to carry!
I have to admit I just go back to the main menu most of the time.
