I am having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that Halloween is only 9 days away. Uhmmm what happened to October? I am pretty sure I blinked and we jumped from July to October…….I decided to try something new for Halloween this year. I decided to make Skull Butter
Just the name Skull Butter makes your think of Halloween and things that creak and groan in the night. This molded Skull Butter is so dang easy to make and it definitely makes a statement!
I can’t wait to see what other shapes and figures I can make out of butter this year…
Have you ever molded butter? It is really pretty easy especially with a cheater mold. I used candy molds to make the Skull Butter. I let the butter sit out on the counter for a day or so until it was really soft and moldable.
I then used a butter knife, which seemed like the perfect kitchen tool for the job, and pressed the butter into the mold.
It takes a little bit to get all of the butter into the nooks and crannies of the mold. I had to use my fingers in one section to make sure the eyes and teeth were done.
I then wrapped the mold in parchment paper and a plastic bag and placed it in the freezer. It should be cold enough after a few hours to remove.
Mine ended up sitting for a few days since we had some crazy life stuff happen this week.
When I was ready to pull it out of the mold I filled a bowl with hot water and rested the mold in the water. Making sure to keep the butter portion from getting wet. The goal is to warm up the plastic so the butter releases.
I was able to turn the mold over and the Skull Butter fell right on the platter.

Are you dressing up for Halloween this year? I have not decided what we are going to do. A lot will depend on how John is feeling. I need to get Halloween candy still but keep putting it off so I can’t snack on it before Halloween.
