Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!
John and I are enjoying a relaxing vacation on the island this week. We have no schedule, no set plans and are just relaxing.
We flew out crazy early on Friday from my parents house in Seattle. We had a quick stop in Oakland before heading to the island. I hate to admit this but I never realized you can see the Golden Gate Bridge as you fly into Oakland. I am normally asleep and have been missing this gorgeous site on prior flights.
I love that Alaska Air serves Mai Tais on flights to Hawaii. It is always the perfect sign that we are getting closer to the islands and vacation time. Plus they just taste so good. I do have to warn you though if you fly first class the mai tais are a bit stronger than the ones in coach. I was very relaxed after drinking both of them!
There is nothing quite like the first view of the islands as you head towards the Big Island. I know that we are moments away from soaking up some Aloha spirit and just relaxing.
We picked up a fun Jeep Wrangler from Alamo for the week and headed out to explore the island. Since we landed on Black Friday as soon as we dropped our stuff at the hotel we headed to Costco to load up on Kona coffee. John buys his coffee each year while we are here along with a ton of holiday gifts that were on sale. We had a Jeep filled with chocolate covered mac nuts, Kona coffee, and delicious tropical fruit.
We spent our first night on the island at the Marriott Waikoloa Beach Resort. We had to pick up an extra night hotel since our condo didn’t start until Saturday. The Marriott was gorgeous! I have always wanted to stay in the Waikoloa Beach area. We always drive there for sunsets so we figured why not stay on site and just relax.
How gorgeous is this view from our room! It was truly paradise!
We decided to stay in for the evening and watch sunset from our balcony and I am so happy we did! This view was unbelievable!
It was so relaxing just sitting back and watching the sun go down. We ordered in room service, changed into comfy clothes and did absolutely nothing. I finished up a crazy good thriller romance novel I started on the plane and ordered 4 more since I am hooked.
I set the goal of trying to read as much as possible this week. Trying to push myself to just turn off my phone, sit back and relax and read. It has been way to long since I just sat back and did nothing but read. So far I read 3 books between the plane ride and our first night here.
Any suggestions on good books to order for my Kindle?
