This week…oh my goodness you guys this week blew my mind! So many bucket list dream moments, so much reflection and truly so much JOY happened this week. I feel like I am bubbling over right now trying to get my thoughts, feelings, excitement and joy down in this post.
At the same time I am gutting my house from top to bottom. I decided to do a 40 bags in 40 days challenge to push myself to really go through our house. Right before I left for our cruise on the Carnival Sunshine something snapped inside of me. I don’t know what the trigger was but it was a definite snapping and I want everything cleaned out and gone.
I need to streamline our lives and make our house a haven, not a clutter pit. I have been working on this for a while on and off and right now it is definitely ON! Holy crap is it on.
Before I dive into everything that I am doing with the house we have to talk about this week. My week was filled with all things Mardi Gras in Lake Charles, Louisiana!
You guys know how much I love Lake Charles! I visited the city this past Spring for the first time and fell in love with the people and the city. Everyone is beyond friendly and Southern Hospitality rules!
My week was filled with Mardi Gras purple, green and gold plus so many beads, king cake and fun. We kicked off the festivities with the Krewe of Barkus parade. Yes, you read that correctly… a parade of dogs dressed up in their Mardi Gras finery! I LOVED IT!
Pretty sure I took about 2 million pics of all of the cute pups and their costumes. Plus some of the owners were dressed to match which made me giggle.
If that wasn’t enough, we also had the chance to a giant alligator float in the children’s Mardi Gras parade. This was pure JOY! I started this year with the goal of spreading joy as often as I possibly can. I could never have imagined that I would have the chance to spread joy to hundreds if not thousands of people I will never truly meet in real life.
The smiles on people’s faces when we tossed them beaded necklaces and waved to them was amazing. It is so hard to put into words the excitement and joy that was being on a giant alligator float.
My cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing so much let alone how sore your arm gets from throwing beads. If you didn’t know Mardi Gras injuries are real..lol!
I would also like to mention that I love King Cake. It is a good thing that it is not readily available in Spokane and or year round. Lake Charles visitors bureau gave us the chance to decorate a King Cake and mail it home. Thank goodness it didn’t come in until right when I got home. I found out that my amazing husband also LOVES king cake and is happy to have it for breakfast. It was so much fun sharing this treat with John.
Meet Miss Doris… She is the tequila soaked gummy worm gifting best friend you never knew you needed in your life. Her laughter is contagious and she dishes out gummy worms like no other. Doris told me that at 70 years young she is living life to the fullest and every day is a gift. I met Doris during the Iowa Chicken Run outside of Lake Charles, Louisiana this week. Doris reminded me that we can’t take life too seriously and need to have fun daily! I would like Doris to be my spirit animal
There is a really cool museum for Mardi Gras regalia in Lake Charles. Did you know that some of the costumes/regalia can take over 1,000 hours of hand sewing to make. Crazy right!
I don’t think I will be heading out in this look but it was fun to try on. LOL!
This one was a bit better. Feathers and glitter… I like it!
We stayed at the gorgeous L’Auberge Lake Charles! This hotel is amazing! Luxury, comfortable and delicious food all wrapped into one hotel property. I have to admit that they completely spoiled us! They left this chocolate mask and I have to admit I turned it around to face the wall so it wasn’t watching me sleep.
They also had these super cute and oh so comfy slippers next to the bed waiting for me.
Yes, I am totally wearing them as I type this and they are now tormenting Kitty Kitty and Fluffy on a daily basis. LOL!
We even had a lovely police escort to get to brunch one morning since some of the roads were going to be closed. I have to admit that they make some mighty fine police officers in Lake Charles. I have my own officer at home but that didn’t stop me from admiring the fine gentleman of the Lake Charles police force. Don’t worry I sent John a photo of me with an officer and told him I felt very very safe in Lake Charles. 🙂
I have 1000’s of pics to go through and can’t wait to share all of the joy that happened in Lake Charles! So many fun stories and people to tell you about.
The group of writers I traveled with were amazing and made me giggle and laugh like crazy. Such an amazing professional group that I was so lucky to spend time with. I hope that we can all travel together again soon.
I flew home bright and early Wednesday morning and dove right back into my 40 bags in 40 days challenge. Ok, honestly I dove right into my bed and pillows but after a great night’s sleep, it was time to gut the house.
Do you ever just feel like starting over? That feeling of just not wanting to have things on shelves, in cabinets or on your desk. I really don’t know what has gotten into me but things need to go.
I started reading this book Grace not Perfection and there is a line about how our belongings do not reflect our lives. That we have the choice to live a life based on experiences versus stuff. As I look forward in our lives I really want to live a life based on experiences and joy not just on stuff.
I love this quote from a random magazine I found in my office
This week’s wine of the week came from Bali. I had honestly forgotten that we had it in the wine cabinet until John found it.
Sadly this wine did not turn out as good as we had hoped. This was our first time trying rice wine and it was not very good. This could be because it sat in our wine cabinet and we hadn’t tried it quick enough.
It was fun looking back on our adventures in Bali and dreaming about another trip to this island paradise.
I am home all this week and will be diving into sharing more about Mardi Gras in Lake Charles, continuing to clean my house, cuddling with Kitty Kitty and Fluffy and hopefully taking my super cute husband on a date.
The next few weeks are looking a bit amazing and crazy at the same time. A new country is coming up along with a conference filled with amazing female entrepreneaurs! 2017 is truly blowing my mind and I love every day of it.
This week is going to rock! Bring on the fun, JOY and great life moments!
