iWitness App ~ Personal Safety Smartphone App

I am so excited to share with all of you the iWitness app! This smartphone app is designed to provide a new level of security via your smartphone.  The iWitness Phone App was designed so that we can use our smartphones as an extra layer of security.

iWitness Phone App

I can honestly say that I am never far from my smartphone. My Husband likes to say that it is permanently glued to my hand. With the iWitness Smart Phone app this is a really good thing.  I love going out for walks and exploring new places but there are times that I have felt incredibly uncomfortable. Whether from a person or a situation. Prior to iWitness the only response I had was to dial 911 on my cell phone and have it ready to go in case something happened. [Read more...]

Needs versus Wants

Needs versus Wants is a conversation John and I have frequently. When we are trying to decide on a purchase we break it down and decide is it something we need or something we want. When I first lost my job this was a constant conversation. Prior to losing my job we honestly did not think about what we were buying. We just bought at will and really did nothing to save. I look back now and wish that we would have lived the frugal lifestyle we do now. We would have so much more money in the bank.

Talking about needs versus wants really opened our eyes to the amount of money we were spending willy nilly. I look back now and can’t believe we used to go out to dinner 2-3 times a week and spend $30-$70 each time we had dinner. We probably spent $250 a week some weeks just eating out. We have nothing to show for the dinners out. We still enjoy eating out but now we do it with a coupon or when we have a special need. We no longer eat out just because I do not feel like cooking or doing the dishes.  We decided that eating out is in the want not need category and something we can easily do without. Don’t get me wrong there are days that eating out is just plain nice. We treat ourselves but now we do it deliberately. We bring a Restaurant.com gift certificate with us or a coupon from the Spokane Values magazine.

We also look at need versus want when it comes to shopping and our daily lives. It is really easy to say I need a new purse or great shoes but are these really a need? I can live without the great pair of shoes and hot purse a lot easier than I can live without electricity and heat. I no longer feel like I need to run to Macy’s and buy the latest greatest fashion accessory or shoes. I know that they will go on sale and I can probably get them on sale for a nice discount if I decide to buy them.

The need versus want conversation can be really uncomfortable and not very much fun but it has helped us save a lot of money. We had to be honest and really evaluate were we want to spend our money. Would we rather take a cruise or have a cute pair of shoes in the closets? Would we rather cook dinner and have money for a trip or go out and eat a quick meal? Sometimes these conversations are hard and not fun at all. We remind each other that each conversation is leading us towards a stronger financial situation and our goals.

What are your wants versus needs? Do you have a goal for savings?

What are you favorite ways to save?

Is it really worth clipping $.25 coupons?

Is it really worth clipping $.25 coupons? The short and long answer is YES! I think it is really important to clip $.25 coupons especially if they are for a product that you use all the time. The first coupon I ever used was a $.25 coupon at Safeway. This one coupon started me on the road of saving a lot of money over the past few years. I was so excited to save a quarter that I went back to see if I could increase it to a $1.00.l I know a quarter and a dollar savings at the store does not seem like much but over time these savings with grow and compound to bigger savings. If you can save $10 a week at the store with coupons you will end up saving $40 a month and $480 a year! This is a huge savings over the year. Imagine now if you increase the savings to $25 a week, $100 a month and $1200 a year!! These savings are possible and using $.25 coupons will help with the savings!
We would all love to save on every product with $1.00 off coupons but there are many products that never come out with more than a $.25 coupon. It is still well worth using these coupons. You can maximize your savings by visiting your store on double days if they have them or using doubler coupons with them to increase your savings to $.50. If you then stack your coupon with the store sale you can maximize even more savings.
Every little bit helps when it comes to saving money. Even saving $.25 a week is a $1.00 a month and $12 a year. $12 can buy a movie ticket, help pay a bill, and put a bit of gas in your car. I would much rather save $.25 than part with the money and not have it for the future.
