One of the ports of calls on our Western Caribbean Cruise was Belize. We decided to take the Altun Ha Ruins and River Cruise Shore Excursion. It was a day filled with Howler monkeys, Alligators, and so much more!
The Altun Ha ruins are amazing. We were there in the middle of a torrential downpour and it was still really cool. We ended up getting drenched but it was warm so it felt refreshing or so I told myself.
During the tour there were local boys who had caught a couple of baby alligators. They offered to take our pictures with them for a couple of dollars. I can honestly say I never thought I would hold baby alligators in my arms. If you have a chance to hold baby alligators go for it!
John enjoyed the local Belkin Beer when we stopped for lunch. I love that the beer has Mayan Temples on it.
The highlight of the day for me was seeing Howler monkeys up in the trees. We heard them well before we saw them. Oh my they are loud and let you know were they are. I was so excited to get to see them in the wild.
We also some some gigantic iguanas. The tour guide told us they are a local delicacy and they taste like chicken. I am going to take her word for it and have no desire to taste iguanas any time soon.
