Have you ever read a book that makes a light bulb go off and things just make sense? That is how I felt reading the 5 Money Personalities. I was able to see how John and I look at money the same and differently. It was really interesting to see how the book described money personalities. I could see how I have changed over the years as we have moved from an executive lifestyle to a blogger lifestyle. One thing this book did for me is remind me how important it is for John and I to talk about our finances and what our goals are. We have meetings every 2 weeks to talk about our financial goals and what we are doing. This book reconfirmed how important this is and gave me some great tools to use in the future. [Read more...]

When I look back on the day I graduated from college I am amazed at how little I knew about finances. It is crazy to think that I worked my way through college, swam on the swim team to help pay for college and managed to balance my check book but I honestly had no clue about finances. I did not realize that each time I used my credit card I was adding more and more debt that I would be paying for years. I did not realize that it was not normal to go and buy whatever you wanted at the grocery store as a college kid. I did not realize that calling Mom and Dad to bail me out when I over-drafted my check book was a luxury not a norm. I wish I could go back in time and knock myself upside the head. I wish I could go back and teach myself the importance of money management from a young age. I have been reading great articles from Genworth Financial to find out more about being focused and making sure we are set up for retirement.
