Downtown Boise is filled with local shops, amazing restaurants and beautiful sites to see. I was really impressed with how clean the Downtown area of Boise is. We felt incredibly comfortable walking around the city exploring. We didn’t take a map or really have any plans as we wondered the city.
Our first stop was the Old Chicago pizza place a Twitter follower recommended for us. I have to say they were right on the money with recommending this restaurant. Oh my goodness the pizza was so good! John was happy the restaurant had a nice selection of local beers to try.
You can’t miss the Idaho Capitol building while exploring downtown Boise. It just sort of pops up at every turn. Thankfully it is a gorgeous building.
If you are wandering out downtown Boise we have a few suggestions for places you really should visit!
Chocolat Shop – Hello YUM! You NEEEEEEED to try the Fleur de Sel Caramels. When I say NEEEEED I really mean PLEASE HAVE ONE OR FIVE FOR ME! These caramels melt in your mouth and are pure pleasure for your taste buds. It is probably a good thing this chocolate shop is an hour flight from Spokane. If I was closer I would be there all the time.
Check out the chocolate shoes! Every girl needs a pair of hand painted chocolate shoes in her life at least once!
Right next door is the City Peanut Shop! If you are looking for a fun gift to bring home from Boise look no further! They have nuts roasted in local beers! Yep, you read that right! Local Beer nuts!
Now that you have had your fill of chocolate and nuts are you ready for some good food? Check out 10 Barrel Brewing right down the road. I know this will surprise you but I had another pizza here and it was fantastic.
John said I needed to make sure and mention how fantastic their beers were!
Right across the street from 10 Barrel there is a parking lot with a ton of art on the walls called Freak Alley! Don’t be scared of the name this alley is well worth visiting. You can see a ton of photos from our trip in our Freak Alley Post!
Depending on what time of year you are visiting Boise it is well worth visiting the Saturday market. The market stretches over multiple city blocks! You can find everything from local produce, wines, flowers to home made crafts and jams.
We picked up Tequila Sunrise Jam, a Huckleberry Mocha and some fun gifts while wandering the market. There was some really cool art I thought about bringing home but sadly my walls are really full already.
Boise is a city that really surprised us. It is so easy to get around and the locals are really friendly. I can’t wait for a return trip to Boise soon!
