This post is in partnership with Ziploc® brand in support of its Limited Edition Holiday Collection. All opinions are my own.
Holiday travel can get a bit interesting to say the least. You are so excited to see friends and family, and yet chaos lurks every step of the way. Getting to your holiday destinations does not have to be a crazy, scary, hair-raising experience – I promise!
Tip 1: Give yourself more than enough time to get from point A to point B
Security lines are long, toll lines are long, and it just feels like everything is congested when you’re traveling this time of year. Whether you are driving, flying, walking or hover-boarding, give yourself more than enough time to move from Point A to Point B. By planning ahead, you can relax and watch others flurry by without worrying about catching your plane,
missing your connection or any other surprise roadblock that may cause stress. Instead, plan ahead and come prepared, so that you can sit back with a sweet holiday treat and take a deep breath at your gate (or the front seat).
Tip 2: Smile!
I know I sound like a Pollyanna, but the power of a smile is incredible. Take a moment to smile at the desk agent, smile at the flight attendants and share some holiday cheer. Your smile is contagious and can make others around you happy as well.
Tip 3: Prepare ahead of time for holiday treats and special items
Have you ever arrived at your holiday destination and wanted to bring leftovers or your favorite holiday sweet treat home and there were no containers to pack them in? This has happened to me one too many times – especially when my Mom makes Krumkake, which is my favorite holiday treat. I only get it once or twice a year if I am lucky, and I always want to bring it home to savor it as long as possible. The Krumkake is super delicate and needs to be packaged carefully in a reliable container.
This year, I packed a stack of Ziploc® brand Containers with One Press Seal to help me take home the Krumkake. They come in four holiday-inspired colors: green, red, gold and blue. They easily nest within each other, inside my suitcase, taking up less space. I was fully prepared to make sure I could bring back my favorite holiday treat from my parents’ house.
Tip 4: Don’t wrap gifts and then pack them in your suitcase if you are flying!
If you pack wrapped gifts there is a possibility that TSA may get the opportunity to open your gift before it arrives at the destination. Instead of wrapping your gifts use, Ziploc® brand Bags with Easy Open Tabs to separate gifts by person. They come in great holiday designs, featuring ornaments and snowflakes, and have different colored tabs that work great for packing since they are easy to grip and easy to open. I pre-measure the amount of wrapping paper I am going to need and place it in a gallon-sized Ziploc® brand bag with Easy Open Tabs along with the gift and gift tag. Everything is organized when I arrive at my destination, and it’s ready to be wrapped quickly. It also saves valuable space in my suitcase for more holiday treats! Plus, you’ll have bags ready to go to hold and organize for fun new things when you start sadly packing to go home.
Tip 5: Keep your important docs safe in your suitcase
The last thing you want is to arrive at your destination, and your papers and info for your trip are soaked because it was snowing/raining when the bags were unloaded from the plane. I use a gallon-sized Ziploc® brand Storage Bag with Easy Open Tabs and place all of our docs in it along with a copy of our reservations. This way, if my luggage is lost, the airline can see exactly whose bag it is and where we are staying. We have had flights where the only item that was dry in our bag was the paperwork in the Ziploc® brand Storage Bag with Easy Open Tabs. I have considered packing our clothes in Ziploc® brand Space Bag® so they are dry when we arrive. It’ll also help me condense some of my bulkier items when traveling.
If you are flying into a destination that may have snow/rain, this is a great way to make sure that your first night’s outfit and papers are dry and safe. I also do this in my carry-on bag to make sure nothing gets to the papers I need. I have been on flights where people forget they have a water bottle, and it leaks under the plane seats, or worse in the overhead compartment and soaks our carry-ons.
The holiday season is in full swing and with it comes chaotic and stressful travel and preparation. That’s why Ziploc® brand is offering a surprise-and-delight experience to give travelers across the country a chaos-free holiday! For example, when hundreds drivers on the Ohio Turnpike arrived at Mile Marker 71 toll booth before their Thanksgiving celebrations began, they were surprised that instead of being asked for the toll, they received an armful of gifts—from snacks packed in Ziploc® brand Bags and Containers to a chauffeured ride home.
