When Aflac reached out and asked if we wanted to join their Aflac Holiday Helper mission this holiday season I jumped at the opportunity. Being able to give back and take care of someone in our community is a dream come true. Aflac knows that this time of year can be challenging for families and individuals who have experienced sickness and medical situations during the year without having the benefit of supplemental insurance. To help make life a little brighter this holiday season and to help spread JOY Aflac partnered with influencers and celebrity parents Kevin and Danielle Jonas to give out a combined $50,000 in holiday cheer! How crazy amazing is that!!!!!!
Check out the hashtag #AflacHolidayHelpers to see all of the joy that is being spread this holiday season! I instantly knew who I wanted to surprise. Our neighbor Patti has had quite the year. She had to undergo major back surgery which caused her to have to stay at her Mom’s house on the west side of the state. She had to leave her cats and house in our care while she recovered from surgery. She was pretty much bedridden for the first few weeks as her back healed.
When she finally had the chance to move back into her house, she was so excited and ready to get back to living a normal life. Unfortunately a few weeks later Patti received a phone call that her older sister had a stroke. She instantly headed back to Seattle to help take care of her sister and family during this time of need. Between her surgery and her sister’s stroke, Patti has been driving back and forth between Spokane and Seattle racking up big gas bills and expenses.
She decided to stay home this Christmas due to the cost of driving back to Seattle. I hate to say it, but Patti has not been in the holiday spirit that we are used to her having this year. She told me that she wasn’t thinking about Christmas and just wanted to lay low for the holidays. John and I wanted to surprise her in a big way and, with the help of Aflac, we were able to do just that.
Knowing that she loves Christmas inflatables but would never buy one for herself, I started with decorating her yard with some of her favorite characters in giant inflatables.
When she came to the house to find out why the inflatables were all over her yard, she walked in to find this….
John and I wanted to surprise her with not only amazing gifts she would never get for herself but also practical things that can help with her back as she continues to recover. A few of the things we picked up for her include a new pet vacuum, a new coffee maker, heated back massager, gift cards to her favorite restaurants and a movie, and some of her favorite foods. We also picked up her favorite Hawaiian treats that she loves from her childhood growing up in Hawaii. We wanted to take care of her pets and picked up a new therapeutic dog bed and treats for the cats.
Kitty Kitty decided to help with the packages….
Fluffy was also right in the middle of the fun!
We are so thankful to Aflac for giving us this opportunity to pay it forward. Over the past year as we have dealt with Johns knee surgery and Patti going through her back surgery, every time the Aflac commercial came on we would all give each other a look. You know that look that says that we really should have applied for Aflac a long time ago. Combined, John and Patti have missed over five months of work in 2016. Having Aflac would have helped to make an impact in our lives.
Make sure and check out this great Aflac commercial to see what I am talking about! Aflac recently debuted a new ad, “Ski Patrol,” which takes a light-hearted approach to highlighting how life sometimes throws you the unexpected that can ultimately impact you and your family’s lifestyle. The commercial reminds us to make sure we’re protecting our health and our lifestyle with help from supplemental insurance, like Aflac’s.
Aflac knows that major medical insurance may not cover every expense related to a serious health event, so supplemental insurance from Aflac is there to help fill in the holes. Health changes, but your lifestyle shouldn’t, and that’s why supplemental insurance from Aflac pays cash, so policyholders can focus on recovery, not financial stress.
Aflac is there in your time of need – big or small. To learn more about Aflac, visit www.aflac.com/lifestyle.
Aflac herein means American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus and American Family Life Assurance Company of New York.
