Happy Valentines day to everyone! I hope everyone has a wonderful day and sees just how wonderful each and every day is and not just worry if they have someone special on one of 365 days this year!
Our past few days have been nothing short of crazy ! When I mean crazy, I mean we were frequent travelers on the crazy train! It all started off with me and Tammilee and a few romantic days planned in Florida before I was to fly to Germany to attend Carnival in Dusseldorf Germany and Tammilee was to fly to Houston Texas and be aboard the Carnival Freedom for an Operation Homefront with Carnival Cruises. We spent one day in Key Largo, had dinner with a couple blogging friends then headed to Sanibel Island, Florida. Sanibel Island is something special to me and Tammilee and thought walking the beach with the person I love was the perfect way to spend and early Valentines Day, oh and some Valentines Day Key Lime Pie : )
I know that we are very fortunate to live our dreams and this sounds nothing short of perfect but its funny how our lives can change rapidly and completely out of our control. For us, this happened about 8 hours before my flight left for Germany! We woke up at 7am and were excited to go walk the beach and go shelling at first light and to watch sunrise! I didn’t feel very well and thought our walk would recharge me so we got dressed and headed out. I remember feeling the cool ocean breeze on my face, hearing the birds squawking and the waves crashing around us but also my stomach was hurting more. It seemed really strange how I remember everything so vividly and even thought this to myself. We got about a 100 yards down the beach and I almost collapsed from unbearable pain. I remember breathing trying to catch my breath and felt very lightheaded. I thought I was being cut in half and barely made it back to our room.
After sitting a few minutes I called my health care provider and told them what happened and they asked me several questions before saying the words I dreaded to hear “you need to go to the hospital” . I knew it was coming but pleaded my case stating you don’t understand, I have a flight to Germany in a few hours! I have to be on that plane! It’s Germany! Now you could tell I was talking to a mother because she said in a very stern voice, now hun, you will have other opportunities to go to Germany but right now you need to go to the hospital! I will never meet this person in my life but she was right and I knew it. I reluctantly agreed and needed her to tell me this!
By the time I got to the hospital I was in extreme pain! I had broke out in the sweats, was cold and clammy, my lips were even tingling from the pain. I was in a hospital that was to capacity and then some as it is is high season for Florida and tons of visitors vacationing. I begged and pleaded with anyone who would listen but it was not meant to be. I begged Tammilee not to send the email that I was not going to make it to Germany until even I had to accept the fact it was not going to happen. After a few hours in the hospital the verdict came in that I have an infection and was going to be there while as I received an IV bag, pain medication and two bags of antibiotics. I know that by this time I was incredibly sad and disappointed. Tammilee was there by my side the entire way not only worried about me but also now trying to balance my disappointment and being a business owner and sending emails to Germany and Carnival. Did I mention a whining husband? LOL All this before she even got to have breakfast at 4pm!
The crazy didn’t stop there, just trying to get medication was a challenge as we were out of state, we changed flights back home as we had no place to stay and a hotel is not exactly a great place to take care of a sick person. We almost got into an accident in Miami and my foot almost went through the windshield. No I am not exaggerating either, there is a claim with the rental car company with a broken windshield. We had one of the roughest flights ever to Seattle including rough air and lots of turbulence, screaming children and a seat kicker directly behind me and Tammilee! Vicadin was not strong enough for the seven hours of pain I endured on that flight.
In the end we made it home safe and sound on Valentines day. I am saddened by not making it to Germany but can’t help being happy as I have had nothing but love come in from friends and family. Did I metion I got to spend the day with Tammilee, the most important person in my life. I have had calls of concern from family, notes from friends as far as Puerto Rico and blogging friends from afar, even neighbors coming in and checking on me. Please don’t be saddened if you don’t have a date tonight but thankful for all the people in your life that love you as we don’t know what may happen to us from one day to the next.
