Last night John and I went on a much needed date night to see Memphis the musical at Spokane INB. It is hard to believe it has been a week since I took John to the ER in Ft. Myers Florida.
The past week has honestly been a bit of a blur. I haven’t had the chance to blog the craziness that the past week included. John did a great job sharing his side of the story on Valentine’s Day.
I felt like it was probably time to talk about my side and celebrate our amazing date night out to Memphis the musical. There is nothing worse than seeing your spouse in pain and not being able to fix it. When John doubled over in pain while we were in Florida I felt like I was the one in pain. My heart hurt so much and I just wanted to do whatever I could to make the pain go away.
It was one of those moments that you just trust in whatever you can and hope that things go right. We were on Sanibel Island and needed to find an ER while our GPS decided to just stop working. We had no cell phone reception so I pretty much winged it and prayed that I was going the right way. I stuck to main roads and have never been so happy to see the blue H sign showing a hospital ahead. I am not sure how we found it but I am so happy we did.
Once we got to the hospital they got all of John’s paperwork done really quickly and told us they would see him as soon as they had a bed open. We thought we were good to go because the hospital lobby was empty. We had no idea what was behind the ER doors. At one point while sitting in the lobby John was in so much pain he thought he was going to pass out from it. I advised the nurse and thankfully they were able to get him back to a bed soon after.
I should mention that the bed was in the hallway of the ER. The ER was so packed they were maneuvering beds all around the hallways and every place they could. Thankfully the nurse and doctor were able to see John quickly and get him on pain meds. They took him for a CT Scan and confirmed what we already figured that it was diverticulitis flaring up again. They gave John some IV drugs and had him hang out for a bit to make sure he was ok. Sadly this meant that John missed his flight to Germany for Karnival. I am just so thankful that the pain kicked in before he was on a plane over the Atlantic heading to Europe.
We ended up spending the night in Miami and changing our flights to fly home the next day. It was a hell flight home. The combination of John being in pain, small children kicking our seats for 6+ hours and turbulence it was not the best plane ride we have been on. I have never been so happy to see the Spokane airport as I was on this flight home.
We have spent the past week home making sure that John is comfortable and getting him checked out again. He is thankfully on the mend and back at work today. It has been quite a week of trying to keep him comfortable, get caught up on life and emails and everything else that seemed to pile up this week.
Last night we went out for a date night and it was just what we needed. Getting dolled up a bit with make up and my hair actually done not just in a pony tail. We went for drinks and appetizers at a reception at the INB before enjoying the musical Memphis. This musical is amazing! If you are in Spokane you should definitely check it out this weekend while it is in town!
I am so happy that John is on the mend and starting to feel better. We still have follow up appointments that we need to set up to find out what else we can do to stop this from happening again but we are in a much better place this week than we were last week.
Thank you to everyone who sent notes and checked in on us! We truly appreciate it!
