Friday morning John headed out to Las Vegas for the #MenWhoBlogDTLV trip. I was going to stay home and get work done, clean the house, and just chill or at least that was the plan. When John arrived at The D Las Vegas he called me and told me I should be in Vegas. At this point I was sitting at my desk working and kind of laughed it off.
He was pretty insistent and told me to look at airline miles and that I should hop a flight to Vegas as soon as I could. Seriously who just hops on a plane to Vegas with no plans ….well it seems I do.
I was talking with Michele from Just 2 Sisters and told her that John wanted me to head to Vegas. She pushed me and said DO IT! You only live once why are you hoarding frequent flier miles when you can be there with your husband. Michele was the push that I needed. Within 20 minutes I had a bag packed and a flight booked with miles and was heading out the door.
I am sitting in Vegas and still can’t believe I did it. My flight down to Vegas from Seattle was quite a trip. I was talking with one of the flight attendants and she mentioned to me that it was going to be one of those flights. Maybe it was the blue moon or maybe it is just Vegas but she was so right!
On my flight I had an exit row with a guy from Latvia and Carl the Scarf Salesmen. Carl is my new BFF after the experience we had with the Latvian gentlemen and a few airsick bags and oh my the turbulence. Carl had me giggling the entire flight. Thank goodness. At one point the Latvian gentleman decided he needed to talk with his friends. This wouldn’t have been a big deal except we were taxiing to the runway to take off. Yep it was one of those flights.
I made it to The D in Downtown Las Vegas close to 1am. John met me at the Long Bar and told me to get ready for a fun night. I rolled in with my backpack and suitcase not knowing that I was about to have one heck of a Vegas experience.
When I reached the bar I was introduced to Derek and Nicole Stevens who own both The D and the Golden Gate hotel. They are amazing and so much fun! My suitcase was thrown behind the bar along with my backpack and we were off to the races. I trusted my gut and their bodyguard that my stuff was safe and nothing would happen to it.
After a few drinks back at the Longbar they told us they were taking us someplace cool. Again trusting our instinct and just going with the flow we headed out into their Hummer stretch limo.
We drove a few blocks to The Golden Gate hotel and had the chance to check out the Prohibition Bar. So great. Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin drank at this bar. The dancing dealers put on a show and there was quite a bit of people watching.
Did I mention that we were in for a Vegas experience unlike any other we have had. We ended up rolling back to The D and hanging out at the Longbar until close to 4am. It was one of the best nights I have had in Vegas.
Seeing how much the employees of the hotels love Derek and Nicole was fantastic. I can’t wait to share our post with more photos from the hotel and the suite we have. Seriously the next time you are in Vegas check out The D! We have been so impressed with our stay.
At around 4am I looked at John and told him I had to get some sleep. I was still feeling a bit sick from having my tooth pulled this week and was exhausted. We grabbed a few hours sleep and then John headed out for more fun. I took advantage of having no schedule and slept in.
The past 24 hours have been crazy, amazing and a seriously fun wild ride. I am so thankful that Michele pushed me to book the plane ticket and head to Vegas. Yesterday we talked about Choosing Happy and I am so glad I chose happy this weekend.
We have so many crazy fun stories to share in the upcoming weeks about this whirlwind trip to Vegas. It has been a wild ride that we will be talking about for a while.
I hope you are choosing HAPPY and enjoying every last minute of summer you can!
