WOW! Our 2nd day on Sanibel Island was amazing!
We started the day at the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge with a tour of the refuge by Park Ranger Becky. You all know my Husband is a Park Ranger so he was beyond excited to talk with Becky about the area. This tour was ah-mazing!!!!!!
I am not sure which part was more fun…seeing all of the birds or just listening to my Husband and Becky talk ranger talk…
They swapped stories and had a great time comparing life as a ranger on 2 different sides of the country.
We saw Roseate Spoonbills on the tv screen at the refuge as soon as we walked in the door. They have a live camera feed showing them in the water and we were ready to go. Would you believe the little pink rascalls flew off before we got to the area………
Stinkers! Don’t worry we are heading back there early in the morning on Sunday to see them again.
We spent the rest of the day really relaxing and checking out the island. If you visit Sanibel you need to stop at Pinocchio’s for ice cream! SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!! It is so dang good!
Try the Dirty Sand Dollar or the Sanibel Crunch! YUM! Oh they also have Key Lime which was delicious…ok really everything we tried was delicious and perfect for a hot sunny day in Florida.
We put our toes in the water and soaked up the beach for a while with a great walk along the water. The water is warm like bathwater!!! So amazing.
Later in the evening we decided to check out Captiva while it was still light out and we could see the houses and island. HOLY HOUSES! They are amazing! I mean seriously huge and amazing. It is well worth just taking a drive around the islands to see the houses and decorations.
We finally experienced the world renown Bubble Room and it was fantastic! We had flaming cheese for an appetizer and it truly was flaming. Along with the bubble bread we had heard so much about. We were so full from the appetizers we skipped the entree and went straight for dessert. The Orange Crunch Cake lived up to everything we had heard about it.
After dinner a thunderstorm rolled in over the island and we enjoyed watching it from our room at the West Wind Inn. Have I mentioned that I think my Husband needs to buy a lotto ticket or 12!!!! We have been here two days and he has managed to get not 1, not 2 but 3 amazing pictures of lightning with his cell phone. I have all sorts of crazy camera equipment with me and didn’t get a single shot. He holds up his cell phone and gets this shot…..
