1st I have to admit that I am a bit behind in daily diary posts but I am on a mission to get caught up. I don’t know why but on this trip jet lag was not my friend. I felt like I adapted to the time change pretty quickly but still felt sleepy all the time.
I have been working on these daily diary posts or I should say attempting to work on them since I got on the ship. A funny thing seemed to happen each time I sat down at my laptop…I fell asleep. Like full on asleep cuddling with my laptop. Not the most comfortable of positions but I guess I really needed the sleep.
We flew out of Spokane heading to Barcelona via Seattle and Paris. The flights were pretty easy minus a delay in Paris. We were so scared standing in the customs line in Paris airport that we were going to miss our flight. The app for the airlines said our flight was leaving in 8 minutes and we still had about 100 people in front of us in customs. Each time I asked they just told me to wait in line and we would get there when we got there. Oh my god the panic! With John’s knee still recovering from ACL surgery I knew there was no way we could make a run for it.
Well as we walked up to our flight thinking we had missed it they updated it to leaving an hour later. I was so happy to sit down and catch my breath at this point. PLUS I found a Laduree Macaron shop near the gate. I have heard so much about these Macarons that I figured they would make the perfect breakfast in Paris! 🙂
Thankfully our flight took off and we made it to Barcelona without a problem. This was our first time exploring Barcelona so we couldn’t wait to hit the town..after a few hour nap. It is a 9 hour time change from Spokane to Barcelona. We figured a couple hour nap was a good idea so we didn’t fall asleep in a restaurant. After a rest we decided to do the Hop on, Hop Off bus tour since John’s knee isn’t up for hiking all over town.
The On and Off bus was the perfect choice for us! We found a bus stop not even a block from our hotel and there was a Starbucks right near it. Total win. I have to admit I fell in love with Barcelona during our short time in the city. I am so ready to plan a return trip to really dive into this gorgeous city. There is just so much to see and do! Plus the Gaudi architecture is simply amazing.
AND oh my goodness we found a Tiki Bar in Barcelona! What are the chances there would be a full on Tiki Bar just down the street from our hotel. It was crazy amazing. I have SO MANY photos to share soon of the tiki bar. My drink was smoking when it came to the table and we sang 80s music and giggled the entire time. So much fun!
In the morning we took another route of the On and Off bus to see more of the city. It was a gorgeous sunny day so we sat on the top of the bus and took way to many pictures. After getting back to our hotel it was time to head to the Carnival Vista!
When we reached the ship I almost started crying. I was so overwhelmed with actually getting on the ship. This has been a dream for a few years to be one of the press covering this ship and it came true. I had to sit in our room for a few minutes to compose myself after we boarded. So hard to put into words what it meant to be on the ship and know that we were going to be one of the first people sharing our experience. Dreams seriously do come true.
Here is a video look at our balcony room. I will have more photos to share really soon!
Our room has been fantastic!
The first night we met up with some friends and enjoyed sit down dining. I have to admit this is the only night so far that we enjoyed the dining room. There are so many great dining options on the ship that we have been bouncing between them.
I can’t wait to share more about this gorgeous ship! Our 2nd day was spent in Marseilles, France! Check out a new daily diary post tomorrow about our day in France and more about the Carnival Vista.
