John and I decided to do something we have never done on the island…..we drove Saddleback Road to see what it is like.
We have a ton more pics to share soon but I have to say it was a fun experience.
We made some new friends along the way…..
There were so many birds along Saddleback Road. I want to go back and spend the day bird watching. We also randomly saw hundreds of sheep in one area.
We stayed in Hilo for about a hot minute long enough for John to visit the Mehana Brewery and check out their beers. Plus pick up a new hat that makes me giggle.
No trip near Hilo would be complete without a quick stop in to Ken’s Pancake House for Loko Moko. John tried the Chili Loko Moko and it was everything he hoped for and more.
Our server gave us the most amazing compliment while we were there. It almost brought tears to my eyes. She said that we should write a book about happy marriages because she could tell our marriage was amazing and how happy we were. This is after talking to us for about 2 minutes.
The drive back to Kona was cool and creepy at the same time.
We hit Saddleback Road right as the sun was going down on the Kona side. The sky was glowing around the clouds. It was kind of creepy but seriously so cool at the same time. At times we were above the cloud line and then back under it.
We are such party animals….or not.
Our evening ended with some moscato at the condo and getting work done.
I can’t believe how fast our time on the island is flying by. Not sure what the plans are for the next few days but I hope they include the beach, sun, and a frosty beverage. 🙂
