This morning I turned on Facebook and I was shocked at how many negative comments and updates there were. It is only 8am and it seems like the world is coming to and end, everyone is sad, upset or angry.
This made me really sad and made me wonder how or why it seems like the negative is always a focus instead of the good that is happening.
Why is it easier to share negative thoughts, emotions and updates instead of the great things happening in our lives?
Why do we focus on the bad things and not celebrate the great things?
Can we change the on going stream of negative comments and post fun positive things?
I really hope so! I hope that we can focus on the good that is happening in our lives. The small things that bring a smile to our faces, those moments that make our lives just a little bit better.
I hope that happy always wins over sad, depressed, angry or every other negative emoticon you see on everyone’s statuses.
I truly believe that we move in the direction of our thoughts. If we think positive and put good out there than good will come back to us. If we focus on drama, negative thoughts and issues that we find ourselves surrounded by more of the same.
So my challenge to each of us is to focus on the good, the fun, the positive, and the things that make us smile.
What can each of us do to bring a smile to a friend, neighbor, co-worker, and don’t forget yourself! What small thing can we take a moment from our day to do to just enjoy the day?
Here are the things that are making me smile at this moment as we sit in the Sea-Tac airport
1. There is a group of gentleman enjoying a lively game of cards giving each other crap and laughing together. They are having so much fun at 8am in the airport it is contagious.
2. My Husband is playing a crazy game on his tablet and giggling as he plays.
3 There is a family across from us talking about their upcoming trip and enjoying being together.
4. I just teased my Husband that I was going to throw my food in the air because he added tomatoes to it and I don’t like them. He looked at me and laughed and said bring it on….I was totally all talk and no action.
5. This morning I watched the wonder on a small child’s face as they rode the airport train for the first time. They were so excited to be on a train and taking a journey
I was reminded of how important it is to savor each moment and not just take for granted the opportunity to ride a train and be at the airport.
Each of these moments brought me a bit of joy this morning. I am focusing on the joy and not letting the negative updates that inundated me the moment I turned on Facebook get me down.
