We have fallen madly deeply in love with Sanibel Island! We have been here 2 days and are already talking about when we are going to come back again.
Winter seems like the perfect time to come back down for a visit. Snow on the ground in Spokane and warm and sunny in Sanibel = paradise!
Seriously this island is crazy amazing! Yesterday we spent the day exploring and saw so much wildlife it was awe inspiring.
The morning started early at Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. We turned around a corner and there were tons of bright pink Roseate Spoonbills along with egrets and herons just waiting for us to take their picture.
One word of caution make sure you pack a lot of bug spray with you. There are these tiny little No See Um Bugs which are pretty wicked. We forgot the bug spray at the hotel yesterday morning and well we paid for it.
The birds were amazing! AND I had serious camera envy looking at some of the professional photographer lenses and cameras that were set up. Oh my gosh the cameras are worth like 10X the value of my car. Oh if only one would magically appear in my Christmas stocking 🙂
The afternoon was spent wandering the island and enjoying the sites. Oh and the food! Every meal we have had on the island has been so good! Breakfast at Island Cow is a must during any visit to Sanibel. The food, the decor and the fun atmosphere are totally worth a visit.
We found a Starbucks in Captiva so I could fulfill my Peach Green Tea Lemonade cravings….I am officially hooked on these and I can’t even deny it.
Doc Ford’s on Sanibel has amazing food and killer drinks. I ordered a coconut watermelon mojito that was DELICIOUS! Oh and part of the proceeds go to the children’s hospital so that seems like the perfect reason to enjoy a mojito or 2.
One of the highlights of the day was our sunset dolphin cruise with Adventures in Paradise! We had not even left the dock when we saw a manatee!
During the cruise we saw a ton of dolphins right next to the boat! A few of them were so close I managed to only get a part of them in the picture I took.
The evening ended with another crazy amazing thunderstorm right outside our room at the West Wind Inn. My dear Husband will be buying a lotto ticket when we get home! He managed to get multiple pics of lighting again! I am not even sure what to say about this! Oh and did I mention they are all with his cell phone. We brought crazy camera equipment with us and he snaps these shots with his cell phone…….
