Hola from Cancun!
I flew into Cancun late Wednesday night and it has been a whirlwind of an adventure since I landed. I got into Cancun LATE!!! It was dark and all I saw was the hotel lobby and my room. I pretty much crashed onto the bed and just slept. Thankfully there was nothing planned to early Thursday morning so the time change didn’t affect me to much.
Last night we had the chance to visit Xcaret about 45 minutes from Cancun and see their show. It was AMAZING! Seriously great. I wasn’t quite sure what the program was since I am here for a travel writers conference and I didn’t know if they would follow the normal programming or have something set up for us.
We were able to see the normal programming and it was great. A visual history of Mexico across the different regions with dance and song. The show is performed in a giant pavilion that looks like a ruin. We were seated in the front row and it was really impressive. The show starts with a game of throwing balls of fire and progresses from there.
It looked like soccer being played with a ball of flames…..not what I expected at all.
Dinner is served during the show so you can enjoy a great meal while being entertained. After a quick networking session we headed back to the Moon Palace. I wish I could say that I have explored a ton of places in the hotel but that just isn’t true.
I am here for a conference so the majority of my time has been spent in meetings and events. I am hoping to get a bit of time tomorrow to explore the hotel and area. It is gorgeous from what I have seen.
On Sunday I transfer to an island about 35 miles from Cancun to explore the area. We are hopefully swimming with whale sharks….eek! So excited and nervous at the same time. They are so big! I have heard that they are fantastic and you just swim in awe with them next to you. I also heard that you should not be near their tail because they can swing it right at you. So note to self stay at the head but not quite the mouth because it is huge and I don’t really want to see the inside of a whale’s mouth……
