During my trip to New Brunswick we had the chance to experience the Lobsters Tales adventure with Shediac Bay Cruises. This boat ride was one of the highlights of our entire week in New Brunswick. The tour was 2 and half hours of pure fun for the entire family! We learned about lobster fishing, we received instructions on how to cook lobsters and most of all we had the chance to enjoy lobster fresh from the bay.
I was traveling with 3 other writers for this trip and their families. Everyone in the group from age 2 to 40+ enjoyed this cruise. The little ones had the chance to try lobster and check out the boats in the harbor. The adults learned how to properly cook a lobster and then feasted on a huge plate of lobster and sides.
The captain of the boat if fantastic. He does the entire commentary in both English and French. He was a lobster fisherman for over 30 years and now shares his knowledge and expertise with all of us. Trust me when I say he LOVES Lobster and loves sharing it with everyone. I was so impressed with how he interacted with the guests of any age. He had the little kids hauling in the lobster cages along with the adults. He even convinced a few of them to do a time honored tradition of kissing a lobster.
The two and half hours we were on the Shediac Bay Cruise flew by so quickly. I could have easily spent another hour or two on the boat relaxing with the breeze and looking out over the water. The boat stays in the protective harbor during the cruise so it was a nice gentle ride. At one point the other writers and I were laughing that the gentle rocking could quite easily put us to sleep. We could have easily taken a power nap spread out over the benches and been happy as can be.
For dinner you have your choice of Lobster, Chicken or a gorgeous vegetarian lasagna. You want to make sure and tell the office your choice when you make your reservation. One thing to know is the lobster is served cold.
There is a full service bar on board that offers both hard liquor and it looked like wine. We did not partake during the cruise so I am not 100% positive what all was offered. I did see guests walking by with a bottle of wine and cocktails.
The Lobster Tales experience on Shediac Bay Cruises was truly a highlight of our trip to New Brunswick. We capped off an already great week with the boat cruise.
If you are vegetarian or do not like lobster the cruise offers a vegetable lasagna and a chicken entree. Make sure and let them know when you make the reservation that you need a special meal. The vegetarian lasagna is amazing!
