If I had to pick a place that I would absolutely love to go back and visit Iceland would be at the top of the list. We visited Iceland for Thanksgiving a few years ago and it was beyond anything we could have dreamed of. We went into the trip not really knowing what to expect. We booked a last minute crazy good deal without knowing much about Iceland or what we were going to see. Thankfully the travel deal we purchased included a couple of tours and our hotel.
My favorite place we visited in Iceland is the Blue Lagoon! Oh my goodness I could go on for hours about how much we loved the Blue Lagoon. It is an out of this world experience to step into hot blue water and watch the sun rise at 11am over the mountains. The water is amazing!!! So warm or hot depending on the section of the pool you are in. There is a waterfall that pummels your back with warm water, a bar, massages in the water and so much more.
One of my favorite parts of the Blue Lagoon was painting our faces with the silica found on the bottom of the pool. The Blue Lagoon is so much bigger than I expected it to be. I was picturing a tiny little pool with people crowded in it. The Blue Lagoon is so big that I had to go searching to find John and my parents while we were there.
We took a Golden Circle tour and absolutely loved it! The tour shows you a few of the amazing waterfalls and majestic views of Iceland.
The Strokkur Geysir is a must see site in Iceland. Make sure you watch for the blue bubble that forms when the geysir is about to erupt. It is amazing to watch it slowly but surely build and then poof it erupts. Depending on the time of year make sure you dress warmly! We were in Iceland in November and it was down right cold! I had on a ski parka, gloves, a hat and warm pants and I was still chilled to the bone.
We took a direct flight from Seattle to Reykjavik on IcelandAir. The flight was really easy and they took great care of us. We booked our entire vacation on the IcelandAir website. We now stalk the website on a fairly frequent basis hoping to find another great deal. We would love to visit Iceland again soon. I would like to visit in the spring or summer so we could rent a car and drive around the island. John really wants to visit the viking museums and spend more time at the Blue Lagoon. I would like to visit the glacial lake in Northern Iceland that you can kayak among icebergs.
