Now that we are in our new house we are still getting used to being in a suburban neighborhood. A place where neighbors knock on the door more often, kids come by selling school fundraisers and dangerous mint cookies. The doorbell rings more at this house in a week than it did in a year at our old place. When Best Buy announced we would be trying out the new Nest Hello video doorbell I literally squealed with delight. I love that you can see who is at the door before getting to the door. This is perfect for those days that I am working in the kitchen and have food all over the place and want to make sure the cats can’t get to it when I walk away. Or for when I am out running errands or traveling and don’t want it to be obvious no one is in the house.
There are so many things I love about the Nest Hello video doorbell! It is hard to pick just a few of them to share with you! But I am going to try and keep this post a little smaller than an encyclopedia and more user-friendly. 🙂
I wanted to show you how big the Nest Hello Doorbell is. It is actually pretty small but easy to see. The Nest Hello is hard-wired into your pre-existing doorbell. If you do not currently have a doorbell you will want to read if the Nest Hello will still work at your house.
Doorbell Alert and 2-way talk
I love that I am alerted as someone approaches my door. I don’t have to run around the house in excitement after my guest has been standing outside longer than they needed to be. I am alerted as they approach so I can whip the door open and give them a giant hug.
I can also let someone know that it may take me a second to get to the door. This is amazing when I am working in the kitchen and have managed to make a mess of myself and or the countertops.

HD Videos – day or night
It doesn’t matter what time of day it is or what the weather is like the Nest Hello delivers amazing HD Videos right to the easy to use Nest App.
Large video view
This Nest Hello has a large view so you can see people from head to toe and also see if a package was delivered and placed on your porch.
You can check in at your front door from anywhere in the world! The Nest App gives you the opportunity to view the last three hours of activity that the Nest Hello doorbell recorded!
Are you wondering what happened at your house during the day? You can easily scroll back through the video playback to see who was near your yard or front door. I was able to check in and see the sprinkler being put in and what work was being done.
You can set up familiar face detection on the Nest Hello so you are alerted when people you know are at the door. It is pretty funny being alerted that the doorbell saw my face when I walked up to the door. I also have neighbors, delivery guys and friends updated.
Set quiet hours
Do you have a baby that is napping or maybe you have a headache and need a break? You can set quiet hours in the Nest Hello App that mutes alerts and the doorbell.

Our next purchase for the house is going to be getting the Nest x Yale Lock so we can lock the door via the Nest app or by using a voice-activated assistant like Google or Alexa.
