Did you buy a new TV at Best Buy during Black Friday? Are you hoping one will appear under the tree this Christmas? Setting up a new TV is always such an exciting moment in life. BUT what about the cords hanging from the TV. You don’t want to stare at them in disgust as you gaze happily at your new killer TV. You want them hidden so you can enjoy the new TV and not have anything getting in the way of your viewing enjoyment. Enter in the Legrand In-Wall TV Power Kit from Best Buy!
We have used multiple Legrand In-Wall TV Power Kits in our new house and love them! They are not that hard to get set up and they make it so easy to hide ugly TV cords and other cords.
OK, back to how easy it is to set up the Legrand Kit. The photo above does a great job of showing how the kit works. One thing I like about this new kit is there are two plugins plus space for HDMI cords to be pulled down through the system. You can see the area to the right with the thin line through it. This is where you will guide HDMI cords and misc cords so they are hidden.
The kit comes with a template to use to cut the drywall to fit the new plugin box. The Legrand Kit is compatible with any TV brand. Another thing I love is there is no electrical wiring you have to deal with. Just regular plugins that we all use on a daily basis. I have a healthy fear of anything dealing with electrical wiring in the house. John thinks nothing of it but I get nervous even changing light fixtures. Which could be why our new bedroom light is still in the box a few weeks after we bought it. That is a whole different story for another day. Thankfully the Legrand kit doesn’t take any electrical work.
There is some wall cutting that has to be done. There is a template in the box to make it easier to know what size square needs to be cut to find the product.
Here is how our day went setting up the Legrand In-Wall TV Power Kit
We were setting the Legrand up in a room that we had set up a tv in yet. We started the day trying to make sure that everything would work together. We had a TV wall bracket that needed to go on the wall along with the Legrand power kit. We started measuring out the bracket and realized that the TV we had to go on the wall did not work with the mount…
At this point, we decided to bite the bullet and head to Best Buy and pick up a new TV. We had talked previously about getting a smart tv for that room but hadn’t really planned on doing it today but these things happen.
We also stopped by the hardware store for a stud finder and batteries.
Once we got back home it was time to dive in. My first tip is to use the template to make sure that where the Legrand TV Power Kit fits with your wall mount.
You need to make sure that the entire box is covered behind the TV. The whole goal is to keep your wall looking clean and not have the distraction of cords or anything hanging out.
You will want a stud finder to make sure that you are cutting into an open space in your wall. This will also help to mount your TV bracket if you do not already have it on the wall.
A level will help make sure that you set your template up even and the cuts into the wall are level.
You will need a sharp knife to cut into the drywall.
Be prepared to clean up some of the drywall that falls to the ground. The last thing I wanted was one of the cats or all of them to think this was something fun to play in and spread it all over the house.
Once you have the wall cut you can then cut the bottom hole and line up your Legrand Power Kit.
This is where we had to pause for a minute….We did not realize that this wall had insulation in it. We are now working to figure out if we can safely use in wall power and how to make it work best since we have a hole in the wall.
Stay tuned for day 2 of our tv mounting/cord hiding adventures!!!
