I have always been told that Park Rangers get paid in sunrises and sunsets and have to agree it’s one of the perks of the job. Just today I found myself pulling out my cell phone and taking photos of a breathtaking sunset while working at Mt. Spokane State Park!
Little did I know that I would be embarking on another job as a travel writer with my best friend and wife Tammilee! I am thrilled to continue the tradition of spectacular sunsets, except this time I get to share them with the person I love!
Our first big adventure in 2014 was driving a 32 foot RV from Elkhart Indiana to Salt Lake City Utah. Being a Park Ranger I was so excited for the parks we would visit including Badlands National Park. We arrived in the afternoon and I was disappointed to only spend a few hours there. Disappointment quickly changed to excitement when the sunset came! It was truly a sight to behold.
We also love cruising and had the opportunity to sail the Caribbean three times last year. We fell in love with the Passion Island excursion at the port stop of Cozumel, Mexico. The beach was spectacular, great hospitality and was given a beautiful sunset before getting back aboard a catamaran to head back to our cruise ship.
We had the opportunity to visit Sanibel and Captiva Islands in Florida and we jumped at it! This has been on our bucket list for many reasons but the sunsets were not something we realized would be so amazing until we arrived on the island. We were so surprised by the sunsets and they were truly one of the highlights of the trip. We loved walking the beach shelling and watching sunset!
Did I mention that both me and Tammilee are “bird nerds” and will go places just to see a bird in the wild? We also went on a dolphin and sunset cruise and were delighted to get a photo with a sunset and dolphins! What more could you ask for?
We also love having a glass of wine and really enjoy wine tasting. We went to Walla Walla Washington this fall and was delighted by Amavi Cellars. What started off as a wine tasting ended up being one of the most memorable moments of 2014! One thing you should know about Park Rangers is that we are very sociable and can talk to anyone! Little did I know that the people working at Amavi tasting room were the same way! I had a “light bulb moment” while watching a glass of wine being poured and well the next thing I know we are all out back watching the sunset over the vineyards.
Our next big adventure was in Greece! We found ourselves on a cruise again this time watching sunset on the incredible Island of Santorini! There is just something magical about this place with its white wash buildings, blue dome churches and the best food on planet earth! The sunsets are pretty amazing too!
We ended the year with a trip to the Big Island of Hawai’i. This place has special meaning for me as I proposed to Tammilee at sunset on the beach in Hawai’i in 2007. Each year I try to take her there to watch a sunset! This year we had several great sunsets and even got to show my mother where I proposed to Tammilee.
I am so excited to see where 2015 will take us and really look forward to sharing more breathtaking sunsets with Tammilee and all the great followers of our blog! Enjoy each day as we only have so many sunsets to enjoy.
