Puntaranes Port Area, Costa Rica
The Puntaranes Dock has to be one of the longest docks we have ever seen at a cruise terminal. You walk along the water towards town. The walk is a bit far but they do have a train that picks up passengers and takes them to the end of the dock.
At the end of the dock you walk through security and right into town. There is no duty free terminal or really cruise port terminal at all. You walk right out into town. There are market stalls along the road side, restaurants and cafes. This is not a plush metropolitan town. You are definitely in an area that is a beach community. We passed a vendor cooking in a tire rim, tents spread on the beach with people living in them and well a lot more.
The market stalls are filled with local crafts and souvenirs. They are really nicely located next to the cruise dock.
By the time we arrived back in town the shops were packed and it was pouring rain.
I have to say this is not a port terminal that I would wear flashy jewelry or show off your purchases. This is definitely not a flashy town!
