I have mentioned more than once that I am a total scaredy cat. I mean seriously I am one of those people who get out of bed twice to make sure the front door is locked and deadbolted. I don’t know why I am this way but I feel like the older I get the more cautious I get. Enter in the Samsung + ADT Smart Home Security from Best Buy and my life is getting a little less stressful. Now I can check all of the doors from the warm comfort of my bed.
The first thing I want to tell you about is the Samsung SmartThings ADT Home Security Starter Kit. When you pick up the Samsung SmartThings ADT Home Security Set at Best Buy it comes with the ADT Security Hub, ADT Motion Detector and two ADT Door and Window Detectors. You can easily pick up additional detectors on BestBuy.com or at your local store. I picked up a ton of extra detectors so I know that each door and window is secured. The security hub includes a 7-inch touchscreen control panel, a built-in siren, battery and cellular data backup, and duel-encryption wireless technology
You can choose to self-install the system or have the Geek Squad come out and help you. The first thing you need to do is make sure you have the Samsung SmartThings app downloaded and an account created. You also want to make sure that the location you house the security hub in has a wireless internet connection and an outlet for the security hub.
Here is what it looks like inside the box so you know what to expect.
Getting the security hub set up was pretty easy. I had to connect to my wifi (make sure you have your password available), check for updates to the system, and then go through the easy to follow instructions to get it all set up.
To pair the additional devices you just have to look for the QR code or installation code at the back of each device and tap in the install code. The install codes are pretty small font so you may want a pair of reading glasses with you if you are not a fan of reading the small print. This may be my 41-year-old eyes talking but I did have to turn on a brighter light to see them.
Depending on how many extra devices you choose to attach to the system I would give yourself at a minimum of 30 minutes to get it set up. If you have a ton of devices it may take longer than that. Each of the devices does need to be screwed into the wall. The door detectors are placed at the top of the door frame with one side the detector and the other the magnet mounted to the door.
The manual suggests setting up your devices within 350 feet of the ADT Security Hub. For the motion sensor you want to place it in an area an intruder would likely pass within a 30-foot range of the detector. The ADT Motion Detector has 60-degree coverage in both directions from where you mount it.
Now that we have talked about the process of setting the ADT Home Security Starter Kit up I really want to dive into what I love about it. This is what makes my scaredy cat heart go pitter patter….I can track everything on my phone. The phone that is always a few inches from me almost 24/7. I can look at my phone and see every device that is connected, the status of everything, when doors were opened, and so much more. All from the comfort of my bed if I want to. If I hear a weird noise in the middle of the night I can pick up my phone, look at the hub and confirm everything is armed.
I can also do this while traveling which makes me so happy. I will know when the cat sitter comes to the house, I can be alerted if something goes wrong and this makes me so happy. Knowing that I am not going to come home to an unexpected issue is truly a huge relief. I have woken up in fear while traveling with not being able to check in on the house or the cats.
Once you have the Samsung SmartThings ADT Home Security Starter Kit set up you can add a few other products to cover more of the house. The ADT Home Security Safety Expansion Pack includes an ADT Smoke Alarm, ADT Carbon Monoxide Alarm, and an ADT Water Leak Detector. We will be sharing more on these products soon.
You can also add in the ADT Keychain Remote which lets you arm and disarm your ADT Home Security System with the press of a button. You can also initiate a panic alarm from your house with the optional ADT professional monitoring services.

You have the option once you have the Samsung and ADT Home Security kit set up to connect to ADT Professional monitoring service. With this service ADT will monitor your home 24/7 for intrustions and panic alerts. They can also monitor for smoke, fire, carbon monoxide and water leaks. They will contact you if any of these are detected in the house. They can also alert emergency services if your home, family or pets are in danger. There are a couple of different levels of service to choose from with ADT.
The Samsung ADT Security kit runs with or without professional monitoring which is amazing. It is really up to you what makes you feel the most comfortable.
