~ Slow down and enjoy the journey, don’t just focus on the destination
~Give yourself plenty of time to explore
~Bring warm clothes
~Stop at the visitor center to pick up maps and great books on the area
~Schedule time to visit Cade’s Cove
Cade’s Cove is an 11-mile, one-way loop road. Cade’s Cove showcases the natural and cultural treasures of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Cades Cove was a farming community in the early 1900’s. About 125 families used to live in the area.
~Give yourself more time than you think you will need!
~You are at the mercy of the cars in front of you and they may not be moving very quickly
~Enjoy the pull offs and check out the amazing views.
~Be prepared for animal jams. We ended up driving through Cade’s Cove at a crawl due to a couple of deer on the side of the road everyone was taking pictures of. It is a 1 lane road and not very fast going when we were there.
The National Park Service has this Free Smokies Visitor Guide you can download for your phone. Includes trip planning, recreation and services information along with the park map. Everything works without a cell signal.
