Now that we have passed Labor Day and are moving into September it feels like it is time to start focusing on taking care of ourselves and eating better. During the summer we found ourselves enjoying all the good barbecue, picnic food, and sweet treats as we went from event to event. Moving forward I feel the need to spend more time in the house, get caught up on life and take care of myself.
We decided to try SlimFast® for the first time and take a 1 week challenge for ourselves. We told ourselves if we take it week by week then we won’t get overwhelmed looking at our big goals. Each week we can focus on making our SlimFast® shakes and smoothies, eating three healthier snacks and one sensible 500-calorie meal each day. I have been wanting to start menu planning to help with our grocery shopping and making sure we have what we need so this was the perfect time to just dive into all of it.
I was super excited to see the SlimFast® smoothie recipes that look so good! Our first morning we started off with the SlimFast® Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie and it was delicious! I told John that I would happily have one of these every morning to start the day. It honestly tasted like a chocolate banana shake. It was super easy to make and portion out which helped a lot.
There is a scoop in the SlimFast® container so you can measure out your smoothie mix. I had to use a fork to find it in the bottom of my container and move it to the top. Just in case you don’t see your scoop when you open your container just use a fork to move around the bottom until you find it. Much easier than sticking your fingers into the container.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie Recipe
1 scoop SlimFast® Advanced Nutrition Creamy Chocolate Smoothie Mix
1/2 small banana
3/4 cup fat-free milk
1 tbsp powdered peanut butter
1/2 cup water
1 cup ice cubes (about 6 to 7)
1. Blend all ingredients until smooth
So easy to make and tastes so good! I feel like September was the perfect time to start this plan with all of the fresh veggies that are available at the store. We received a copy of Martha Stewart’s Vegetables cookbook which is packed with delicious ways to prepare veggies. I am going to fully admit that I tend to stick to my tried and trusted vegetables and haven’t really tried a ton of new ones lately. Looking through this cookbook is inspiring me to branch out and try some new vegetable combinations.
I am pretty sure John is ready for some new vegetables to hit the table and not just the normal ones he has seen our entire marriage. I don’t know why I haven’t branched out but I feel like it is time to push myself. I keep thinking about the 40 new things I did before I turned 40 and how I need to get back to pushing myself to try new things and step outside of my comfort zone. If I can survive riding in a NASCAR at 155+ MPH a few weeks ago then I should be able to survive trying some new vegetables. LOL!
We are also using an Office by Martha Stewart dry-erase monthly calendar to track what we are going to make each day for meals. One bonus for enjoying SlimFast® for two meals a day is less cooking and stressing over having the right things in the house. Now I just have to focus on making sure our fridge is stock full of the right snacks and ingredients for our 500 calorie meal each day.
We are taking this day by day and then week by week to really focus on our life goals and getting back on track with them. The summer was a ton of fun but it is time to really take the time to take care of ourselves and make sure we are eating better.

You all know I am all in on tech and making our house as smart and efficient as possible. This article really inspired me as I look ahead to what we want to do in the house. I already have a lot of smart home tech and this article showed me ways to maximize the use of the tools we already have.
This fall and moving into the new year are all about focusing on what we need to feel happy, healthy and joy each day! Small steps that will lead to big impacts going forward!
