This past week I had the chance to tour the LA Zoo and learn more about monkeys and other great wildlife. We were celebrating the release of Disneynature’s Monkey Kingdom out in theaters on April 17th!
We even took stuffed Maya monkeys with us to celebrate the movie. You can imagine the looks we got from the school kids as 25 adults walked in with their stuffed monkeys.
It was a great conversation starter as people asked us about the movie and our stuffed monkeys. I nicknamed my monkey Hunky Monkey! You will have to see Monkey Kingdom to get the reference 🙂
We loaded into tram cars with a docent from the zoo and we were off. It was so much fun catching up with friends while touring the zoo. On board with me is Kas from Southern Bella’s Ways, Jen from The Rebel Chick, Jana from Merlot Mommy, and Sara from Budget Savvy Diva.
One of our first stops was to see the hippos. What you can’t see in this pic is the new baby hippo that is sandwiched between mom and dad. Want to know something I didn’t expect to hear. The mom hippo was on birth control and well it didn’t work out so well. We learned that the hippos are great parents and the baby is doing wonderful.
We spent quite a bit of time in the monkey exhibits and had the chance to hear from some of the zookeepers. It was really cool seeing all of the babies.
The Langur monkeys are featured in Monkey Kingdom! It was fun seeing them in person and thinking about their rolls in the movie. Hint they are quite spoiled in the movie.
How cute is Maya monkey hanging out at the zoo! It was so much fun taking pics of the monkey all over the zoo.
We had the chance to see the baby koala who was exploring the branches on its own.
In the same exhibit there were baby kangaroos that were feisty and so much fun.
Meet Maya and her family in Monkey Kingdom!
For every ticket sold opening week (April 17-23, 2015), Disneynature will make a donation to Conservation International to help protect monkeys and other endangered species in their natural habitats.
Make sure and head to the movies this weekend and enjoy this great family movie!
