Step back in time in Tallin Estonia
Prepare yourself for Tallinn as this is the port that I tell everyone about!
Most people take a Northern Europe cruise to see St. Petersburg Russia. I will be the first to admit that’s why I booked this cruise. St. Petersburg was all I hoped for but the real surprise was Tallinn Estonia. I can only describe it as a fairy tale medieval type city. Your mind wanders if this is where Disney gathered inspiration. People greet you in old town in period costume and it is a must to try the almonds.
I was told by several people to try the local beers including honey, cinnamon & herb. Be prepared to be asked if you want a man size or a ladies size beer when you order. I was going to get the man’s size but before the server left I thought it was a good idea to ask the size differences as I wanted to try all three. Man’s size is a liter and a ladies size is a half-liter. I opted for the ladies size and glad I did. The beer was very sweet and I had a hard time finishing the honey and cinnamon and did not order the herb. I will save that for my next visit, maybe have the Man’s size then.
I would recommend spending the day exploring Old Town. We took a bus shuttle just outside the boat for approximately $5.00 each.
We spent the day just wandering; enjoying the architecture and atmosphere. We really enjoyed seeing St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Across from the church is where I had my photo taken with Shrek. They were working for tips but the photos were so worth the tips! There is much more to Tallinn but I will leave it up to you to explore and enjoy!
