Our fantastic visit to Stockholm on our Baltic Sea cruise. The city is absolutely amazing.
We took an on off bus tour around the city which worked out great.
We were able to check out the sites we wanted to see and spend part of the tour just riding around the city.
Our first stop in Stockholm was the royal palace. The bus tour dropped us off pretty close to the palace area. We walked for about 5-10 minutes to reach the palace. We were able to walk around the palace and check out the main entrance way, guards, and other buildings. The front entrance overlooks the water and has a great view of the old city.
We did not take any of the inside tours of the palace since we were only in town for one day. We wandered through town until we found the Hard Rock Café. It is a bit out of the ways and not where I would have expected it to be located. We walked about 20-25 minutes to find it from the main part of the town. I must warn you the prices at the Hard Rock Café are steep! I gasp a bit when I did the exchange rate in my head and realized how much the guitar pin was going to cost. John and I split a plate of nachos and had 1 beer and it was still a lot more than I expected. The café is filled with memorabilia and very comfortable to sit in.
After visiting the Hard Rock Café we walked back into town. It was really interesting stopping at a local grocery store. I could not believe the price of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce. A tiny jar cost 8 Swedish Krone which at that time was close to $14 US. We did find some really nice chocolate pastries to snack on as we walked.
The highlight of our visit to Stockholm was the Vasa Museum. This is a must see if you are in Stockholm. The Vasa Ship is amazing! The ship was so much bigger than I expected it to be. You can walk up multiple levels to see the ship from all sides. I cannot imagine how grand this ship had to look in the open water. The museum has really nice displays that showcase life on the boat. You are able to see what it would have been like for ship workers on the Vasa. We did not give ourselves nearly enough time in the museum. We could have easily spent a couple more hours in the museum wandering around.
