Lately, I have been thinking a lot about the blog, what we are sharing and how to incorporate our real life into our stories. So many of the things I think about sharing don’t really fit into the pretty pics we normally share or the beautiful food and meals we try and help you create. So much of real life is just that REAL! It is not pretty, it is painful, it is scary, and it can be downright random.
While I was in Jamaica, I met Tracy from Shutterbean, and she told me about her My Everyday Life weekly series that she has been doing for years. I was so in awe of this series and listening to her talk about it. Every week she shares her real life, the random, the beautiful and everything in between. She doesn’t hide behind her camera lens she uses it to express what life is really like.
I have been thinking about this series and her posts since I saw them and decided I needed to find a way to incorporate these real life stories into the blog. I initially thought about waiting until the New Year to start, but that was honestly fear keeping me from starting. I have a fear of not getting these done weekly, a fear that our real life is not what you expect and honestly just a fear of what will come.
Soooo with all that being said I am ripping off the band-aid and pouring myself into this new series. I can’t promise it will be pretty, I can’t promise that it will always be on time (because life happens), but I can promise that I am going to be real, honest, open and most of all available in these posts. I am going to share our life, our struggles, our fears, our happiness, our cats, and what it is really like to travel the world while maintaining a business and marriage.
So here we go….
Headed home from Jamaica super early in the morning. Had to leave the resort before the sun came up and before the coffee shop was open. 1st stop in Atlanta after clearing customs and TSA…Starbucks chai! Happiness in a glass! Starting not to feel good so this cup of happiness was everything!
My view for hours on end….Montego Bay to Atlanta to Seattle to Spokane…long day but I am home!
Thank goodness for Kindle Unlimited and way too many romance/thriller books on my iPad to keep me entertained on the plane. The Bond series of books from Emma Hart kept me entertained for hours. Confession I have read the first six in a row and I am now counting down the days for book 7 to come out. They are funny, sarcastic and managed to keep me entertained for hours on the plane.

Confession time..Keeping it real…I have never seen the Sound of Music! Gasp! I know! I have been living under a rock and somehow missed this movie. Next week we are taking a Sound of Music tour in Salzburg, Austria. I figured it was probably time to curl up and watch the movie.
Perfect timing since I feel like crap and need a day on the couch. 3-hour movie…yes, please!
Fluffy kitty cat cuddles while watching the movie make life good! Now if only I could get rid of this cough and sinus issues. Dosing myself with serious cold meds and saying a little prayer that this passes quickly. I do not want to be sniffling on 15 hours of flights this Thursday.
2nd confession- I did nothing on Monday but watch movies and try not to look like Rudolph from blowing my nose 100000000 million times.
I feel slightly more human and felt like I should shower and get out of the house. We have been talking for months about getting a 2nd Canon 5D so we don’t have to battle over who gets to take pics with the one we have. We finally broke down and bought a 2nd one and I am so excited to have it with us while in Europe.
Hoping this solves the battles of who gets to shoot with the DSLR and who is shooting with their phone. Also, I hate to see the moment that John realizes how many more photos he is going to have to process now that we are both shooting with DSLR’s. LOL! 🙂
Now if you need me, I will be gulping a large amount of chai tea in hopes that it miraculously makes me feel better.
We went to bed worried about the election results and wondering what we would wake up too…..
Today started with me sharing pics of myself in a swimsuit…what in the world is happening! Seriously, how did this happen! Still in awe that I put those pics out there. What I didn’t share in my things I didn’t know I needed in my life until I visited Jamaica post was the after shots from the swimsuit photos. You know the pics that you can’t believe happened….
Like the moment you come out of the water thinking..is my top on? Did I just flash the entire resort? Oh wait, it is still on..thank goodness! That is exactly what is going through my head at this moment! I may have also been thinking Holy SH*** did I seriously just take pics in my swimsuit! Also thinking it was time for another Bob Marley cocktail because I earned it for these pics.
I woke up to see this on my computer…We had been watching the election late Tuesday night until I was at the point of falling asleep at my desk. I honestly wasn’t sure what we would wake up to, but this was not what I planned on seeing.
I am still reeling from these results for some many reasons. I am worried that we are a country that is so divided right now. During my recent travels, I have heard so many people remark in other countries that they can’t believe this election is happening. Well now it is not only happening, but the results are in.
How did we get to this point? How? Why? What happened? These are all thoughts going through my head. I am nervous for our future! I am nervous for how the world will view us. I am nervous for what will happen in the next four years. I am scared of the lessons our kids will learn from this. My friend Danielle’s daughter Delaney wrote the most amazing post that everyone should read -> The presidential election through the eyes of a child
This post speaks to me on so many levels. 1st I have to say how amazed I am of Delaney! To have the guts to write this post at 12 blows my mind. She has inspired me to write this post and share my feelings. I have been nervous and scared to truly put out there how I felt about the election. I didn’t want to make waves or show my fear BUT if Delaney can put it out there and be a strong woman who knows how she feels than I can too!
Thank you, Delaney, for inspiring me and sharing your true emotions, thoughts, and fears with the world.
Reality of food/recipe photo shoots in our house some nights. Fluffy cat decided that he needed to supervise and spent the entire time sitting on the windowsill staring me done. I am sure it had nothing to do with the giant bowl of pasta and chicken sitting on the table.
Keep an eye out for a delicious Greek Chicken One Pot Pasta Recipe coming later this week! It is so good!
I went for Wife of the Year awards by bringing John a Caramel Machiatto to help him get through his last few hours of work before vacation!
Thursday and Friday
Thursday and Friday are all a bit of a blur together. We flew from Spokane to Phoenix to London Heathrow and then to Munich.
Getting fancy on our flight…wine in a plastic glass 🙂
This may be one of the best do not disturb signs I have seen. We stayed at a Moxy hotel near the Munich Airport and this was on the door.
I am so glad we picked a hotel that was only about 3 miles from the airport. We picked up our rental car, a Jaquar..eek, and still managed to have to do 3 u-turns to get to the hotel.
We were both so ready to crash and sleep for the night.
Oh jet lag you evil evil thing! We woke up wide awake at 3am and could not fall back to sleep. We had plans we thought for the day and then we talked to my Dad for a while on the phone and our plans completely changed.
He told us to go to Rothenberg and reminded me how much I loved it when we visited 20+ years ago. We followed his advice and I am so glad that we did!
This is the very happy face of my husband driving 200Km+ an hour on the Autobahn in the Jag. Let’s just say he LOVED IT!
My Dad also suggested we check out the city of Bamberg and we tried to but it just didn’t work out for us. Would you believe we drove into the city twice….we couldn’t figure out where to park, what we were missing or well anything. I think we were still so tired from jetlag, confused over the street signs and just plain not sure where we were.
In the end we took a driving tour through the city. Saw some cool buildings, we still are not sure what they are and then drove out of town heading for Rothenberg.
Rothenberg was absolutely amazing and so worth the drive! We spent a few hours wandering the city and took SOOOO MANY photos! I can’t wait to share more pics!
We drove to Stuttgart for the night and well you will have to check in next Sunday to see more of our European adventures and the real life stories of our travels 🙂
