This week started off in Eilat, Israel and then proceeded to be filled with jet lag fun. lol!
Sunday was my final day in Israel and we packed in as much as we possibly could. We started with an amazing Israeli breakfast on the beach looking out over the Red Sea. I am pretty sure this was heaven on earth and I could have spent the entire day lounging at this beach. So relaxing and such a cool vibe.
Plus the Israeli food is to die for! I am already missing the hummus, pita bread and everything else we ate. Though my jeans may be happy that I am home and back to eating tiny meals.
Sunday night I headed to the airport in Tel Aviv and started the process of getting home. One of the reasons I started this diary series was to talk about the real life adventures that happen with travel. Travel is amazing, but it isn’t always glamorous or pretty. I made it through Tel Aviv security and check-in in about two hours which I hear isn’t too bad. This included waiting in line to check in and getting all of my electronics searched before hitting the waiting area.
My first flight was from Tel-Aviv to JFK in New York went super smooth, and we arrived an hour early. I cleared customs and then realized I had 5 hours to kill before my next flight. I wish I would have tried to see if there was an earlier flight home!
Right before my flight from JFK was due to board, they notified us that they were having issues moving the jetway to the plane. An hour later they were finally able to unload the passengers on the plane and get us boarding. Unfortunately, this meant that I missed my connection in Salt Lake City that would have taken me direct to Spokane.
I had to make the decision if I was going to fly to Portland or Seattle. Heading to Seattle had a super tight turnaround but got me home a few hours earlier. I ended up deciding to go through Portland and not tempting fate with getting home. In the end, it took me a little over 40 hours to get back to Spokane from Tel Aviv. To say I was happy to see my cute husband and be home is an understatement!
I am pretty sure I stunk with plane funk and just needed to collapse. My amazing husband won so many points and kisses it is kind of ridiculous. I came home to find clean pajamas set out for me, towels laid out in the bathroom along with new Bath and Body Works bubble bath and lotion. I swooned not just from jet lag but how sweet he is.
From Monday night to Thursday is honestly a bit of a blur of sleeping, jet lag, sleeping and more sleeping. I would have taken an IV of Starbucks Chai if that was a thing to kick start life. I was a zombie honestly and can’t even deny it. I was not really functioning much due to jet lag and just needed to sleep a ton. For some reason, the 10 hour time change and non-stop adventures caught up with me this week.
Not wanting to get sick or even more run down I just listened to my body and slept when it wanted to and watched some tv. Though I was super productive from 2 am to 5 am for some reason. Lol!
Looking ahead I am excited to be heading to Los Angeles to board the Carnival Imagination this next week! I will be part of a press group covering the Carrie Underwood Carnival Live concert on board the ship while it is docked in Catalina Island! This is my first time doing a cruise to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. Plus my first time on the Carnival Imagination!
I am so excited for a cruise ship nap and to see some amazing friends. Hoping that jet lag has passed by then and I am a functioning human being.
Oh and just in case you missed it make sure and check out John’s killer new post on his site on beers inspired by National Parks. I had no idea there were so many beers inspired by parks. So cool!
