This week we visited our 39th National Park together and it was amazing! Sunday was spent getting the house cleaned up still from the kitchen fire, packing, doing laundry and well life stuff.
Monday morning we hopped the 5 am Alaska flight to Seattle and then headed to Fresno for our National Park adventures. Our goal was to visit Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park. We visited Sequoia last year but were unable to make it into Kings Canyon due to snow. You can imagine how much this drove my park ranger husband crazy to be so close to a new National Park and not able to actually get into it.
This is the first Memorial Day weekend John has had off in 25 years! Crazy right! We decided last minute to take advantage of having a three day weekend and booked this trip. Thank goodness for Alaska Airline Miles and Marriott Points! We were able to get great flights and a stay near the park.
After arriving in Fresno it was time to head to the park. We decided to go straight to Kings Canyon to maximize our time in the park. One thing to know if you are heading to Kings Canyon or Sequoia is to pack snacks! The gas stations along the way have some snacks but not a ton if you are looking for healthier options.
Let’s just say we had an interesting mix of snacks for lunch and snack breaks while in the park. Thank goodness for a CVS near our hotel so I could get more snacks for the rest of our trip. Next week I will have a post out on road trip essentials and using CVS Curbside to make your trip even easier. I am so in love with this program!
Kings Canyon was really beautiful and filled with some fun adventures. One thing about being married to a Park Ranger is you never know where you will end up. I am a safety girl who likes to keep to the main roads or at least roads that are clearly designated on the map and I can see where they end or how long they are. My Park Ranger Husband does not follow along with these thought processes at all!!!!
John saw a sign for a river road and off we went. Thankfully it was a dirt road that was not filled with ruts and rocks since we were in a full-size rental car. The road ended up being absolutely gorgeous and well worth taking but I did have a few moments of fear/oh god what is happening in my life moments. There were no signs saying how long the road was or where it ended. AND it was a one-way road so once we were on it we had to keep going. I kept asking John if he had any clue where we were headed. He just giggled and kept on driving.
Thankfully we ended up near one of the park visitor centers and a bathroom after a while! The rest of our trip was spent wandering among the giant Sequoia trees and looking up in wonder. It is crazy to think of what all these trees have been through in their 1700 years of life! If only they could talk I am sure they would have so many stories to tell.
John is working on some great articles for Park Ranger John sharing tips and things to do in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks! Make sure and check out Park Ranger John and let him know you stopped by! John is having so much fun sharing his passion for the parks and Park Ranger life on his new blog!
Tuesday we flew home and kicked off a week of getting life things done! We have been having weekly meetings every Sunday morning to create our life to-do lists and talk about everything we want to get done. Do you do weekly/monthly family meetings?
I feel like these meetings have made such a difference in us getting things done and being on the same page for what we need to do. We talk about our budget, to-dos, goals, dreams, plans, and everything else that comes up.
The rest of the week was spent deep diving into the website and making updates and changes that hopefully make your reader experience even better. One of the big updates we did was making a new recipe directory for all of the recipes that have been shared in the past 8 years. I went through 850+ recipes and made sure that you could find them by type of meat, occasion, meal type and so much more.
Please let me know if you would like to see anything added to the directory or have a special request for a recipe to be shared.
Next week is all about fun! Three of my favorite bloggers are flying into Spokane and we are having a blogger adventure. I can’t wait to share pictures and more soon! Now I need to go clean the house so it is ready for the four of us to eat all the bad food and desserts we can while laughing a ton.
We hope you have an amazing week!!!
