This week was filled with thrills and stepping back in time to enjoy the idyllic life in Mayberry.
I do have to say that Sunday did not start how I thought it would. I woke up and the hotel had no power. I was a bit confused and thought maybe I was so tired I had forgotten how to turn on a light and then I realized that the clocks were off. Being on the 6th floor of the hotel I figured this was a sign I needed to curl right back into bed and sleep some more.
This was my Facebook update once I went down to the lobby. It pretty much sums up the entire morning:
My hotel has not had power this morning and it is amazing to hear how people are handling it.
I am sitting in the hotel lobby getting some work done and I keep hearing people get super angry at the front desk employees.
Blaming them as if it is their fault there is no power, grumpy and just plain mean.
On the other hand, some guests are treating it as an adventure and laughing over the craziest.
I have been reminded over and over again that we each have the opportunity to choose how we react and what we do in situations.
Life doesn’t always go in a straight nice path some days there are twists and turns and unexpected bumps. We have the choice as to how we handle the bumps and twists.
We all have a choice on how we handle situations! This was a random event that made the morning a little more adventurous.
From the hotel, I headed north towards Mount Airy, North Carolina for a few days. Our first stop was the gorgeous JOLO Vineyards which is a must stop for anyone near Mount Airy. From the delicious food to the gorgeous grounds I could have spent all afternoon here.
How gorgeous is this view!!!!!
They had a soap log at JOLO Vineyards. This was the first time I had seen one. What do you think?
After checking into the hotel and getting some work done we headed to Creek Bottom Brewing for dinner and to meet the rest of our group. This restaurant features a huge list of beers and delicious pizza. They even had a pimento cheese pizza which I had never seen before.
Monday morning we kicked off our tour of Mount Airy with a visit to the Andy Griffith Museum. The museum is dedicated to the work that Andy Griffith did including the Andy Griffith Show and Matlock. Andy Griffith grew up in Mount Airy and parts of the city were featured in the Andy Griffith Show.
Andy Griffith’s homeplace is now available to rent. You can stay the night or longer in his childhood home. We learned that they have all of the Andy Griffith Show episodes available in the house to relax and watch.
One of the highlights of my visit to Mount Airy was taking a Squad Car tour around town. When I saw we were visiting Wally’s Service Station and taking a Squad Car tour I honestly thought we would be walking around a museum taking pics. I had no idea you can actually tour in the cars and see a ton of cool things around the city.
We had lunch at the Loaded Goat and it was the first time I have seen Meat in Tube Form listed on a menu. LOL!
Everyone raved about their burgers and how great they were. I was in love with their fried pickles.
Did you see the Solar Eclipse? We were enjoying wine tasting at the Old North State Winery and had to run across the street to see it. WOW! That was so cool! Thankfully a kid let me look through his solar glasses because I was not prepared for the eclipse. oops!
Can I admit that I tried to get this flamingo home with me. I was going to have the store ship it to me but they couldn’t find a box for it sadly. I thought about taking it with me and trying to get a box while in Concord/Charlotte but can you imagine the looks walking into my hotel with a 5 foot flamingo under my arm.
Isn’t it sooooo cute!!!!
We sadly had to leave Mount Airy on Tuesday morning and head towards Charlotte/Concord. I could have easily spent at least a few more days if not longer exploring Mount Airy.
Would you believe that while we were waiting for our rooms to be ready at the hotel in Concord the fire alarm went off? This was not my week for hotels. Though the cute fireman walking through with axes. LOL!
Being in Charlotte/Concord, North Carolina where Racing Lives we had to experience the Charlotte Motor Speedways!
I now really want to see a NASCAR Race from The Speedway Club! Oh my gosh the views and the food were amazing.
I had the opportunity to ride in a NASCAR thanks to the Charlotte Motor Speedways NASCAR Experience program and holy SH** I did it! I am going to fully admit to praying the entire time I was in the car…
Praying I wouldn’t puke up the delicious lunch we had just enjoyed
Praying that I wouldn’t get stuck trying to get out of the car
Praying that I wouldn’t fall on my face while trying to gracefully exit the car
Praying that the world would stop spinning once I exited the car
So yeah pretty much praying more than I have prayed in a while.
I literally sat in the car with my hands clasped together having a conversation with myself the entire time I was in the car. One part of me was thrilled to be going 155+ mph in the car, one part of me was so scared I didn’t know which way was up.
But I survived it and didn’t let fear win!!! Holy hell fear was close to winning but I overcame it and it was truly something I needed to do in my life.
Thankfully none of my fears came true and I lived to tell the story of my adventures.
So many more stories to tell soon from our time at Charlotte Motor Speedways!
We went to an evening event at Charlotte Motor Speedways and they had it snow for us! Snowing in August…yes please!
There were even delicious snowman cookies in August! Hello YUM! They were celebrating the Christmas light spectacular that they do at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Which is now crazy high on my list of things to experience in life.
Most of my time in Charlotte/Concord was spent in meetings with amazing destinations from around the country. We
did go to Great Wolf Lodge for lunch on Thursday and oh my did they spoil us.
We did think about starting with the chocolate fountain but then we heard there was truffle mac and cheese and had to head in that direction.
Bright and early Friday morning I headed home from Charlotte! By the time I got home I was so ready for my bed and to crash into it.
Check out the pics John sent me of the kittens while I was in Charlotte. Squeaky P decided to make an appearance on the couch for a few minutes up until he realized John had seen him, then it was straight back downstairs to hide.
Bandit decided to watch America’s Got Talent up close and personal. LOL!
They are definitely keeping us amused with their antics.
I am home this week getting caught up on life and a few projects I can’t wait to share with everyone.
I hope you have an amazing week!
