I can’t believe this is already week 6 of our real life travel and adventure diary. One thing I love about writing these posts weekly is I really have to think about the little things that happen that make big impacts in our lives. Those moments that occur during the week that truly make life amazing!
This week we started with an adventure to New Mexico and then bundled up to deal with the arctic cold Spokane is experiencing!

I am obsessed with my new pillow for the couch. Now I want to order more of them in different quotes.
I am working on a huge post that I am so excited to share soon! I am so in awe of what we get to do and really want to spill the beans on this project! The cats were oh so helpful with wrapping and making sure the bows were perfectly placed..or chewed on.

We headed out super early in the morning for New Mexico. Our first flight left Spokane at 5am! We ended up with an extended layover in Seattle killing time in the Alaska Air lounge and trying to not fall asleep in the chair. It was a struggle to stay awake until our next flight. We finally made it to Albuquerque and headed towards Roswell.
This painting was for sale at the airport…i just don’t know what to think about it!
Holy wow! New Mexico has some amazing sunsets!!! I was so impressed.
Tuesday December 13, 2016
The day started with blowing up our Green Space Alien….as one does in Roswell. 🙂
I thought this photo was hilarious!!! I couldn’t help myself.
You have to love a city/hotel where people don’t even blink an eye when you walk through the hotel with a 5 ft Green Space Alien.
Don’t worry we buckled him in to make sure he was safe for the drive.
Can I just say the city of Roswell is amazing! Oh my gosh, we had so much fun! I have so many photos to share soon from around town. We went on a hunt for every alien we could take a photo of.
We have talked a few times about my fear of caves, claustrophobia and so on. This year I seem to be pushing myself to conquer this fear of caves or at least try to not scream and pass out while I am in them.
As you know John is doing a National Park project this year sharing 365 photos of National Parks on Instagram with the hashtag #NPS365TammileeTips. Well, part of the reason we visited New Mexico was to visit 2 new National Parks including Carlsbad Caverns…yep, more caves!
What my dear amazing husband declined to mention prior to reaching Carlsbad Cavern is the 750-foot elevator ride down into the caverns….750 foot down…in an elevator…into a cave! Holy #*#*#*#*#*
I earned some seriously chai tea and wife points with this trip! I went into the caverns and took a ton of pictures while having quite the inner dialogue in my head. My inner dialogue may have included things along the lines of….how to get out of all future cave visits, how in the hell did this happen again, oh my god is there a bathroom down here and more. By the way there totally is a bathroom in the caverns. Creepy yet randomly cool at the same time as far as bathrooms go.
I did buy these in the gift shop….now to decide who to surprise with this special treat.
After recovering from my cave experience we headed to another new park for us…Guadalupe Mountains National Park!
This park is gorgeous! We spent a couple of hours exploring and then sadly had to hit the road to head to our hotel. I have so many photos to share soon from both of these parks. Because trust me if I was going in a cave I was taking 100000’s of pics so I didn’t have to go back down again anytime soon.
Remember me mentioning New Mexico sunsets…holy wow! Well this one happens to be in Texas but you get the gist of how amazing the sunsets are. This sunset felt like it went on forever! Poor John! I kept asking him to pull over so I could take more photos of the sunset.
I decided to start playing around on SnapChat again after taking a few months break. Check out the geo-filter that we found at dinner! HELLO LOVE!!! So much fun! The geo-filters pretty much called me back to SnapChat.
I also love how the Cracker Barrel decorated for the holidays. I walked around the restaurant taking pics and giggling at the photos. Pretty sure other customers thought I had lost my mind a bit but come on how funny is this pic!
On the way to the hotel, we drove through El Paso, Texas. We thought it would be hilarious to have Old El Paso Salsa in El Paso..because these are the things you think about after spending hours in the car. Would you believe the grocery store had about 10 million salsas and none of them were Old El Paso! I guess this is going to be our reason to return to El Paso, Texas.
Wednesday December 14, 2016
Breakfast was back to Cracker Barrell because I love it there and we don’t get it very often at home. The closest one is over an hour away so we have it when we can get it. Though I just learned that New Mexico has a breakfast burrito trail so now I want to fly back down and try as many breakfast burritos as possible. YUM!
Even the sun rises in New Mexico were breathtaking! I took so many pics trying to get them to show just how gorgeous the sunrise was.
We drove about an hour from Las Cruces and made it to White Sands National Monument for our first visit to the park. My Mom has told me stories of going sand sledding as a kid at the park. I really wanted to go sand sledding but we were there before the store opened to buy a sled. I thought about sliding down in my jeans but figured I would be the tourist sprinkling sand from her jeans all through the airport and trying to explain why I was leaving a sand trail behind me.
I found this slightly disturbing…
You know I had to get my toes in the sand while I could! It is single digit temps at home and mid-60s in New Mexico! The perfect weather for my favorite Birkenstocks!
For some reason this sunset photo will only load upside down….I don’t know why! But as you can see it was a pretty flight back.
Thursday December 15th
You know how we have been sharing things we didn’t know we needed in our lives…well I didn’t know I needed to be on a side of JIF peanut butter container until this amazing holiday gift arrived in the mail. So much fun!
Chai tea, a warm blanket, and fluffy cat…the perfect evening curled up relaxing!
Friday December 16th
Hello Arctic blast of cold…I haven’t missed you!!!
We celebrated John’s grandmother’s 89th birthday tonight! She is an absolute spitfire! She says it like it is and loves unconditionally!
Saturday December 17th
I decided to deep clean my office…also I have to admit in writing that I have a serious journal problem! Oh my goodness so many of them.
Also I think USB’s reproduce additional USB’s when I am not looking. I filled a ziploc bag full of them.
