Carnival Conquest in La Romana, Dominican Republic

Published: Nov 4, 2015 · Updated: Jan 9, 2022 by Tammilee · This post may contain affiliate links

Yesterday the Carnival Conquest was in La Romana, Dominican Republic for the day. We decided to do something we have never done before on 13 cruises. We stayed on the ship to see what it was like during a port day. It was so much fun wandering the ship and just spending time exploring.

    La Romana Dominican Republic

The storms from Grand Turk followed us to the Dominican Republic. We started the day with rainstorms and a bit of thunder and lightning. It was amazing to sit on our balcony and watch the storm pass through.

We of course headed to the Iquana Cantina for a breakfast burrito to start the day. Can you tell I am addicted to them! I will seriously miss waking up to them when we have to leave the ship.

I love that they use fresh ingredients! Plus the guys are just so much fun to talk with. They are always smiling and making me laugh as I get my burrito.

    Carnival Conquest Towel Animal

The crew on the Carnival Conquest is amazing! Every morning we see different towel animals decorating the pool deck. It is so much fun! They even have flowers and glasses for them. I have never seen this done on other ships. We love it!

Since we decided to stay on the ship in port for the day we had time to explore the ship and take photos. One of the things we are loving about the Carnival Conquest is the art that is everywhere. This pic is from the deck 5 walkway. At the end of the walkway is our favorite Alchemy Bar. There is great seating along the walkway with views over the water. The night club and teen clubs are located along the walkway.

During the day it is really quiet and the perfect place to relax with a book.

The lobby atrium is filled with amazing paintings. The entire ceiling is a giant mural. Plus there are small paintings all over the ship. You could spend your entire cruise just checking out all of the art that is on board the Carnival Conquest.

After a relaxing afternoon, we headed to the dining room to meet up with everyone for dinner. It turned into a hilarious dinner!

    dining room show

The Carnival wait staff put on a fantastic show for us singing and dancing in the dining room! It was so much fun some of the guests joined in with clapping and singing along.

We also celebrated Julies 26th Un-birthday. The best part was she didn't know we were going to celebrate her birthday. It was hilarious watching her reaction as the wait staff started singing Happy Birthday and presented her with dessert. I am pretty sure she is already plotting pay back against John for planning it. It was so worth it just to watch her reaction. Don't worry there are videos coming soon 🙂

    chocolate melting cake

We finished dinner by splitting a warm chocolate melting cake and an amazing lime cake. John and I couldn't decide which one sounded the best so we ordered both and split them. The perfect way to enjoy both delicious desserts.

    alchemy bar stacey

After dinner, we headed to the Alchemy Bar to cure what ails us. Stacey filled out her prescription pad with her wants and ails so the bartender could whip something up for her. I asked for a surprise cocktail that was fruity.

    Alchemy Bar cocktail

The Alchemy Bar never disappoints! They always whip up a fantastic cocktail that is beyond delicious. I have no idea what was in my drink but it was one of the best drinks I have ever had.

Tomorrow we are in Curacao which is one of our favorite ports. We are planning to spend the afternoon just wandering and seeing the city and island.

What a phenomenal trip! I have never been on a cruise but the idea sounds lovely. It is great to know that they use fresh ingredients when it comes to food prep. The last tin I want is horrible food when on vacation!

I am the same way with the towel animals. I carefully move them to the couch or desk and try to keep as many of them as I can. They are just tooooooo cute!

I am currently jealous. Our last attempt to cruise was cancelled and I am slightly bitter about how our trip went. Nothing like a cruise. We are getting a redo in March.

The towel animals are one of my favorite parts of the cruise. I literally hurry to our room each night to see what animal we have.

Wow you make going on a cruise sound like so much fun! I hope it was a blast for you. I've never been even but it's always been in the back of my mind. I travel often and live in Houston which is right near a main port.

Rain rain go away! I've only be to a little island in Dominican Republic but would love to go again to the mainland. Friends tell me that the beaches are beautiful! The food and culture are awesome. I hope you get some relief from the rain soon!

This looks like such a wonderful trip. We were thinking of going to the Dominican Republic with our family this winter but just committed to going to Mexico instead. It is so important to detach and unwind from the daily grind and explore the world...especially at times when the weather is awful in Chicago!

What great looking food and I never thought about what happened on a ship when it was at port. Sounds like it is fun whether staying on board or visiting the town.
