We originally planned to make 4-5 pounds of Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork but ended up making almost 10 pounds of crockpot pulled pork after finding an epic deal at the grocery store on pork butt. They had a manager's special marking it down to a $1 a pound and we stocked up.

The photos below show all 9.9 pounds of pork but we are going to share how to make a smaller portion if you don't need to feed a ton of people.

BBQ sauce, Dr Pepper cans, and packaged pork but on a white counter near a slow cooker

    Ingredients

    • Pork Butt
    • Dr. Pepper - cans
    • Barbecue Sauce

We suggest getting Dr. Pepper in cans because it is easier to measure out and not end up with extras.

    Recipe Tips

We cooked the pork in Dr. Pepper and then made a separate Dr. Pepper barbecue sauce that we added in once we drained the initial cooking juices from the crockpot. You can make this with the barbecue sauce in the crockpot if you like a really saucy pulled shredded pork.

You can reserve some of the Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce if you want to add it on top of sandwiches.

We serve this with coleslaw and other great side dishes.

This is a great slow-cooked pork shoulder to feed a crowd.

This recipe can be adapted to make Coca-Cola or root beer bbq sauce instead of Dr. Pepper.

We tend to serve our Pulled Pork Sandwiches with a nice brioche bun or hamburger bun. You can top it with onions if you like the flavor.

This recipe is a family favorite! Just plan to cook pulled pork for as long as possible to make it really easy to shred.

You can shred the pulled pork in the crockpot or move it to a cutting board and serve it that way. Just make sure to remove the cooking liquid so it doesn't splash all over you.

We like to serve this slow cooker Dr. Pepper pulled pork directly from the crockpot so it stays warm. You can set out a basket of rolls, a bowl of coleslaw, and sides and your guests can serve themselves which works out great.
