Chick fil A Frosted Coffee Recipe

On the Chick Fil A news site, they say that the frosted coffee is made by combining Chick-fil-A’s signature vanilla Icedream® with THRIVE Farmers™ cold-brewed iced coffee.

THRIVE Farmers coffee is a custom blend of cold-brew coffee just for Chick fil A.

Since we don't have a soft serve ice cream machine in the house we used vanilla ice cream that has been sitting out for a bit to get it really soft.

One thing that I found interesting is their website talks about how the cold brew coffee was never hot. Instead, coffee grounds are infused with cool, filtered water and steeped using proprietary equipment for up to 24 hours.

When we first tried to make this copycat frosted coffee we tried using hot coffee that we iced over, and I have to tell you it did not work. The flavor did not have the chocolate coffee taste you get from good cold brew, so we started over and over and over again.

This recipe reminds me of a coffee flavor milkshake that is the perfect summer caffeine included treat.

The perfect morning-friendly milkshake on a hot summer. This is truly one of our favorite fast food restaurants treats.

My husband is always in for a Chick fil A run in the morning to get a frosted coffee and breakfast sandwiches. He thinks it is the best idea for a breakfast date.

Ingredients

  • Cold Brew Coffee
  • Vanilla Ice Cream

Cold Brew Coffee - We tried multiple cold brew coffees and thought the Starbucks Cold Brew black and unsweet drink was the closest in flavor.

We did not have any luck making this drink with coffee beans and cups of cold water brewing them in our coffee maker. The flavor was just not there.

Ice Cream - We make this with good quality vanilla bean ice cream but you could easily use chocolate ice cream for a fun twist on the classic frosted coffee.

Garnish - For a fun sweet addition to the coffee milkshake you can drizzle a bit of caramel on the inside of the glass.

Chick fil A currently lists the following extra options that can be added including chocolate syrup, cookie crumbles, strawberry syrup, seasonal autumn spice syrup, autumn spice crumbles (seasonal).

Equipment Needed

Blender - We use a Ninja Blender and absolutely love it!

Shake glass/tall glass

Spoon/Ice Cream Scoop

Recipe Tips

We like to set the ice cream out for a bit so it is soft and easier to blend with the cold brew coffee.

You can make this frosted coffee drink as thick as you like. The more ice cream to less cold brew the thicker the closer to a coffee milkshake it will taste.

This recipe is best enjoyed right when you make it. If you really really want to prepare it ahead of time you can make the recipes as is then pour the frosted coffee into an ice tray and store them in the freezer.

When you are ready to make the drink just add the iced coffee cubes to the blender with a bit more cold brew. The drink will have more of an icy texture after being frozen.
