Slow Cooker Cheesy Pasta and Beef Casserole

I hope you love this slow cooker pasta and beef casserole recipe! It is such a great comfort food dinner. So dang easy to make!

Life is crazy busy and knowing you can serve a great dinner easily is such a relief. Save time in the kitchen so you can enjoy all of the other fun things you want to do.

Ingredients

  • Canola oil
  • Ground beef
  • Chopped onion
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Dry mustard
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Tomato sauce
  • Diced tomatoes in basil, garlic, and oregano
  • Penne pasta
  • Cheddar cheese

Equipment needed

  • Vegetable chopper - This is a huge time saver for chopping veggies.
  • Measuring cups
  • Large skillet
  • Mix n Chop - We use the mix n chop to break up the ground beef and love it.
  • Crockpot - We suggest using a crockpot that has a digital timer that automatically switches the slow cooker to warm after a set amount of time. This helps make sure your dinner cooks perfectly and you don't have to stress about what time it is going to be done.
  • Pasta Pot - to cook the pasta in.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Canola Oil
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Mustard Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • 16 oz Tomato Sauce
  • 14. 5 oz Diced Tomatoes in basil garlic and oregano
  • 1 pound penne pasta
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
US Customary - Metric

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a large skillet and brown beef
  • Transfer beef to crock pot, stir in onion, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes
  • Cover and cook on low for 8 hours
  • Cook pasta on stove top according to directions
  • Stir cooked pasta into beef mixture just before serving
  • Top with Cheddar cheese

    My family loved this recipe. I altered the recipe a little as I browned the hamburger with a tablespoon of garlic salt. Also about an hour before serving I boiled the pasta Al dente about 12 minutes then added to the other ingredients. Added the cheese the last 20 minutes, then served my family. This is definitely a do-over in my house!

    Rather than cooking in a Crock-Pot, I cooked onions and browned meat in a skillet. Drained the fat, put meat and onions back into the skillet, added the rest of ingredients (minus pasta) and simmered for about 30 minutes. Added pasta and cheese. Stirred and served one delicious meal.

    I can't see cooking cooked meat for 8 hours in a Crock-Pot.

      Thank you for the tip! I was wondering too about waiting for a recipe like this in the Crock-Pot, I may try another time just to see how that turns out, but this was quick and easy. It turned out good, I would make again, thank you to the original poster of the recipe as well!!

    luv pastas ..added one jar Emerils kicked up tomato spaghetti sauce one can tomato sauce one large can chopped tomatoes plus teaspoon Italian seasoning and Basil added to the rest of your receipe..yep awesome

    A hearty recipe, Tammilee! My family, friends and I really enjoyed it at last night's dinner party. It's a lovely meal to enjoy on a cold winter night. I just replaced the tomato sauce with tomato paste as I like my Penne pasta meals to be covered in thick sauce.

    Cooked this following the recipe. I'm glad that I slowly stirred the noodles in, because one pound of noodles would have been too much. Next time I will double the meat mixture.

      That is what I am going to try. Uncooked pasta first then the meat sauce on the top with a little cheese. Will add a bit of water for pasta absorption.

    Are you supposed to drain the grease from the meat before adding it in the crockpot?

      Yes, drain the grease and just add the browned hamburger to the crock pot.

      You may be able to do it at 4 hours. I would change the temperature and check it to make sure it doesn't burn.

    Found this on Pinterest. It was very tasty. I made mine on the stove top and simmered it for about 2 hours. I ended up adding water when it got too thick and simmered it more. My 4 year old gobbled it up! Thanks for the recipe.

        How many cans of the diced tomatoes should you put in? I used one. Mine burnt . What I was able to save tasted good. I figured not enought liquid. So how many cans? Thanks

          It calls for one 14 1/2 oz. can. Crock pots all cook different - some cook hot and fast and some not so much. I have four and they all cook differently. You may need to add a little water or decrease cook time. Since everything is already cooked there is no reason for 8 hours. Be sure to cook on low setting also. Hope this helps!

    This is an easy skillet meal. Why would you need 8 hours in a crock pot when the meat is already cooked and the pasta has to be cooked later and then added?
