Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Casserole

I am so excited to share this Slow Cooker Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Casserole Recipe with you all! I have been racking my brain for months trying to think of a fun new slow cooker casserole to share.

I know that you all love the crockpot taco casserole, Crock Pot Tater Tot Casserole, and Crock-Pot Pasta and Beef Casseroles we have shared over the past year or two.

I have been trying new fun casseroles in the crockpot to see which ones turn out great and which ones turn out blah. I am keeping the blah ones tucked safely away from here so you don't have to try them.

Thankfully this Sloppy Joe Casserole Recipe is delish! Sloppy Joes were one of my favorite meals growing up. There is just something amazing about being given the permission to eat something with the name sloppy in its title. You can layer on the paper towels over your shirt and dig in!

Plus you can't go wrong with anything that includes tater tots. Are you a tater tot or fries person?

Super easy to make Crock Pot Tater Tot Sloppy Joes Casserole Recipe. Made with ground beef the entire family will love this slow cooker recipe. The crockpot does all the work and you have a great family meal!

This sloppy joe tater tot casserole recipe looks a lot harder to make than it really is! The slow cooker does all the work. I love serving it as the perfect comfort food dinner.

John is a big fan of any recipe that includes tater tots so that makes it a lot of fun to come up with new recipes. There is just something about tater tots.

Tater tots covered in cheese in a crockpot

Equipment needed

Saute Pan - You want to use a pan that is deep enough to handle the ground beef and other ingredients

Hamburger Mixer - I love that this kitchen tool helps you break up the hamburger easily

Slow Cooker - If you want to save yourself from washing a pan this slow cooker has the ability to brown the hamburger in it.

Large Kitchen Towel  - I like to place a towel right under the slow cooker lid to absorb some of the moisture in the crockpot. This helps keep the tater tots from getting soggy.

Why do you use the towel?

The towel helps soak in any extra moisture so the tater tots do not get soggy.

Tried it in tonight in the oven at 400 deg for 30 mins. 10 mins left added cheese. Pretty Good, but my husband thinks It lacks something. It needs a zing for us.

Hello! I really love this recipe from a cooking standpoint firstly. It is easy, made with simple basic ingredients I always have, and uses a crockpot...which is essential during these dog days of summer in Texas.

Secondly, everyone who has tried it the two times I have already made it...have raved over, usually having seconds!

I love feeding my friends and family. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us!

My tots do not get crispy, even with that nifty tea towel trick...but no one even cares. Ha ha. I may try doing it in the oven this winter, just to see what happens.

This dish is delicious!! I didn't have the time to cook it in the crockpot, so I fixed it on the stovetop (and cooked the tater tots in the oven). Assembled it in a casserole dish and popped it in the oven to melt the cheese. Topped with sour cream and served - definitely a family favorite now!

Do you drain the hamburger before adding the tomato sauce?

I still don't understand the towel thing. First I dont' know what a tea towel is. Second, you put it across the top of the crock pot & the ends are on the outside of the pot so the lid doesn't fit tight? Thanks.

Could you make this on low 6-8 hours instead of high for 4 hours as I work all day.

I made this last night and it was VERY good! I made it on the stove, cooking the tater tots in the over though because I like my tots crispy. It worked out great. Thanks for sharing!

I'm confused about the tea towel... Do you put a tea towel over the top layer of tater tots? What is the reason for this and won't they stick to the towel?

      Hi,
You put the tea towel right under the lid. It helps soak up moisture so your casserole is not soggy.
