Oreo Milkshake Recipe

This past year has been well a YEAR! We have lived a life none of us really expected. This has brought days when having an Oreo Ice Cream Milkshake is pure bliss. Ok, it is pure bliss every day but some days it just makes life even better.

This week we enjoyed a bit of fake spring. You know the few weeks each year that you get your hopes up that spring is finally happening and the snow is gone. During this time I went on a spree of baking with Oreos. I don't know why warm weather and Oreos needed to happen but they did.

After making Oreo Pudding Poke Cake, Oreo Rice Krispie Treats, and Oreo Fluff I realized I still had Oreos left...how is this possible. Oh yes it is because I bought 82 million packages of Oreos one day at the grocery store when they had a killer sale. LOL

Did I mention our fake spring is fading back into winter so I am enjoying an Oreo Milkshake before it starts to snow again? I know that warmer weather is coming but boo on more snow even if it is only for a few days.

Kids and adults and the whole family will love this easy Oreo Milkshake Recipe! This copycat recipe is similar to the shakes served at Sonic and Burger King.

Oreo Milkshake Ingredients vanilla ice cream, milk, and Oreo Cookies

Ingredients Needed

This is a quick overview of the simple ingredients that you'll need to make an epic Cookies and Cream Milkshake! Specific measurements and step by step instructions are included in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Oreos - I normally use regular or double stuff Oreos depending on what we have in the house. You could easily use any flavor of Oreos that you find at the grocery store. Any brand of chocolate sandwich cookies will work.

Vanilla Ice Cream - If you want to make a chocolate oreo shake you can change out the vanilla ice cream for chocolate ice cream, strawberry ice cream, of your favorite flavor. I like to use a really good french vanilla ice cream. I suggest setting your ice cream out on the counter for about 10 minutes before you make sure your shake so it has softened and is nice and creamy.

Milk - This can be made with whole milk or a non-dairy milk like coconut milk.

Vanilla Extract - You can add in a teaspoon or two of vanilla extract if you want a stronger vanilla flavor.

Whipped Cream - You can top your Oreo Shake with whipped cream and then sprinkle a bit of Oreo crumbs on top to make it even more yum!

Chocolate Sauce - I like to line the inside of my glasses with a swirl or two of hot fudge chocolate syrup. It makes the Oreo shake look like you got it at a high-end ice cream parlor.

Equipment Needed

Blender - We are big fans of the Ninja Blender. You can use any blender that is strong enough to mix all of the ingredients.

Soda fountain-type glasses - I love the look of these soda fountain glasses. They just make the milkshake look even more decadent.

Paper milkshake straws - if you are serving this at a party or want to make them look like you are at an ice cream counter I love these paper milkshake straws.

How to make an Oreo Milkshake?

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post but here's a quick version.

This milkshake recipe is so darn easy! Are you ready.....put ingredients in the blender and blend!

If you want a creamier milkshake add in the Oreos with the vanilla ice cream and milk and blend together. If you want a chunkier milkshake add in the Oreos after you blend the ice cream and milk together. Just pulse in the Oreos until you get the consistency you want.

How to make an Oreo Milkshake without Ice Cream

If you want to skip the ice cream you can make this shake without ice cream by blending in ice cubes instead of ice cream. This will make an Oreo smoothie-type shake.

Recipe Variations

Substitutions/ Variations -

Caramel Oreo Milkshake - Add a drizzle of Caramel syrup to the blended ingredients.

Banana Oreo Milkshake - Add a frozen banana to the blended ingredients.

Double Chocolate Oreo Shake - Use chocolate ice cream

Peanut Butter Oreo Shake - Add 2-3 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter

Healthier - Use skim/nonfat milk and less Oreo cookies

Vegetarian Option - Everything in the current recipe is vegetarian.

Vegan Option –  Oreo cookies do not contain any animal-derived ingredients and are safe to eat for vegans. Use a vegan ice cream and non-dairy milk (soy milk, coconut milk, almond milk)

Larger Group/More servings – This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled depending on the size of the blender being used.

Recipe Tips

You can make this a vegan Oreo milkshake by using vegan ice cream and dairy-free milk like almond milk.

Bananas can be added to make it an oreo banana milkshake.

A scoop of peanut butter adds a fun flavor twist.

You can make this a mint Oreo shake by using mint chip ice cream.

To make crushed Oreos to top the shake add in extra Oreos to a plastic bag and pound them with a rolling pin.

For even more kick switch out a portion of the milk for coffee to make an oreo coffee milkshake.

This is one of our favorite super easy recipes to enjoy all year round. As you can see you can customize this ice cream shake to any flavor you have available or dream up.
