Homemade jar gifts are perfect as they are inexpensive and easy to assemble, even at the last minute!

This DIY peppermint vodka is excellent if you need a quick gift idea and only have a few hours to throw something together, and you likely have the ingredients already on hand.

I love using canning jars to make drinks and store spices in!

They look cute with Canning Labels and pretty ribbons. You only need a bit of creativity to turn the jars into DIY holiday gifts everyone will love.

You can even get Red Canning Jar Lids to help with the Christmas theme.

This peppermint vodka has a great candied peppermint flavor! There are endless unique drink ideas that can be made with this vodka (see our list below).

    Ingredients

Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make an epic Homemade Peppermint Vodka! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.

    • Vodka
    • Peppermint Candiesย

    Equipment Needed

    • Canning Jar with Lidย

Fine mesh strainer - There may be small particles of the candy left in the bottom of your jar. If this bothers you we suggest using a strainer before serving.

    Preparation and Storage

Make-Ahead: The peppermint flavor intensifies as the mixture sits, making this recipe make-ahead-friendly! Let it sit for at least four to five hours, preferably overnight. The longest recommended time to infuse vodka is three to five days.

Storage: The canning jar doubles as a storage container for your Homemade Peppermint Vodka! Enjoy leftovers within six months.

Freezing/How to Freeze: You can freeze your vodka, but be sure to strain the candy and any sediment left behind first.

    Recipe Variations

Substitutions: You can use any vodka or peppermint candy you enjoy! Vodka is a neutral spirit, and its role in this recipe is to provide the alcohol content, so you wonโ€™t need to use an expensive brand. However, make sure you use a peppermint candy you like, as the candyโ€™s flavor determines what the final product tastes like.

Vegetarian + Vegan Option: This holiday spirit recipe is vegetarian and vegan as long as your peppermint candies are. Check the label before getting started.

Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free peppermint candies to make this recipe gluten-free.

Alcohol-Free Option: Use an NA vodka to make non-alcoholic Peppermint Vodka.

Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: We use 16 ounces of vodka and three to five peppermint candy pieces to make four servings of Peppermint Vodka. Scale the written recipe up or down to your desired yield.

Sugar-Free: The written recipe contains 3 grams of sugar per serving. Use sugar-free peppermint candies to make this recipe sugar-free.

Tips for the Best Homemade Peppermint Vodka

    • The intensity of the peppermint flavor will depend on what peppermint candies you use and how many you add. Try this recipe with three to five pieces per 16 ounces of vodka and adjust it to taste.
    • Weโ€™ve seen other recipes that crush the candies before placing them into the jar with vodka. Both ways work.

What to Serve with Homemade Peppermint Vodka

Whether you make a personal batch of candy cane vodka, share yours with a loved one, or turn it into a DIY gift, raise a glass to a jolly good Christmas by adding some Homemade Peppermint Vodka to these drinks!

Any vodka-based cocktail that would taste good with peppermint is a great candidate. Cheers to holiday cheer and delicious cocktails.ย

Cherry Bomb Shot: Replace part of the cherry vodka to make a Peppermint Cherry Bomb, or replace it altogether for a Peppermint Bomb Shot.

Classic Moscow Mule: Peppermint Moscow Mule - need we say more?

Eggnog White Russian: Swap the vodka with Peppermint Vodka for Peppermint Eggnog White Russians.

Grinch Jello Shots: Use equal parts vanilla and peppermint vodka to add yummy, festive flavor to these party-ready Jell-O shots.

RumChata Iced Coffee: Inspired by RumChata Peppermint Bark variety.

  • You can serve this peppermint vodka as a chilled shot.
  • Make a peppermint martini with a candy cane garnish perfect for the holiday season.
  • Peppermint Hot Chocolate - Add to your favorite hot cocoa and garnish with a peppermint stick.
  • Peppermint Coffee - Make a spiked holiday coffee drink.
