I have a confession to make. I have never figured out how to hard-boil eggs on the stovetop. For some reason, this skill is not in my repertoire. Thankfully, I have a trick up my sleeve that makes it so I never have to worry about making hard-boiled eggs on the stovetopโ€”I make Crock Pot Hard Boiled Eggs!

Yes, it is true! You can use your trusty CrockPot to hard-boil eggs that turn out magnificent! These are so easy to make! You don't have to worry about how long to hard boil eggs, watching over the eggs so they are not in the water too long, or any of the other issues that I seem to run into with hard boiling an egg on the stovetop.

I put off making hard-boiled eggs for years until I figured out I could use the CrockPot. Now, I make these easy-peel hard-boiled eggs all the time. Either John takes them to work for a snack, we slice them over salads, or just enjoy them on their own.

Are you ready for the crazy easy? Oh my goodness, why have I not been doing this for years?ย

As part of our instructions on making a Crockpot Hard Boiled Eggs, check if your eggs are good if you are questioning how old they are.

    Ingredients

Here is a quick overview of the simple ingredients needed to make epic Crock Pot Hard-Boiled Eggs! The printable recipe card at the bottom of the post includes specific measurements and step-by-step instructions.

    • Eggs
    • Water
    • Salt

    Equipment Needed

    • Spider Strainer: I like using this Spider Strainer to make it easier to remove the eggs from the hot water. A slotted spoon will also work.ย

How to Make Crock Pot Hard-Boiled Eggs

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

    1. Fill your CrockPot with eggs. I usually do 6-12.
    2. Fill the CrockPot with water until the eggs are barely covered.
    3. Salt the water liberally.
    4. Set on high
    5. Remove the eggs and place them into a cold ice water bath in a bowl of ice water.
    6. Peel and enjoy!

    Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead: The cooking time for these hard-boiled eggs is two and a half hours in your slow cooker, giving you plenty of time to work on other menu items or simply relax.

Storage: Store leftover eggs in an airtight container in the refrigerator and enjoy them within a week.

    Freezing/How to Freeze:

Egg yolks freeze well and last up to three months, but egg whites turn rubbery and inedible when frozen. Scoop the egg yolks out with a spoon and freeze them in an airtight, freezer-safe container or Ziploc bag.

You can use the yolks in any recipe requiring them, like our Scotch Eggs for a cocktail appetizer or Creepy Egg Eyes for Halloween.

How to Reheat: Hard-boiled eggs are delicate and do not reheat well in the microwave. Reheat leftovers in hot water or using a steamer. Let frozen egg yolks thaw overnight in the fridge before using them.

Recipe Variations + Tips for the Best Crock Pot Hard-Boiled Eggs

Substitutions: We wrote this slow cooker how-to guide for chicken eggs, but it should work for any other type of egg, such as duck. You may need to adjust the cooking time to the size of the eggs you want to cook.

Vegetarian Option: This recipe is naturally vegetarian.

Gluten-Free: This recipe is naturally gluten-free; the only ingredient is chicken eggs.

Smaller Serving Size + Larger Group/More Servings: We typically make six to twelve hard-boiled eggs at a time when we make them in the CrockPot. Depending on your slow cookerโ€™s capacity, you can prepare as many or as few as you need.

Make It Spicy: Check out our Spicy Deviled Eggs for a spicy recipe using hard-boiled eggs.

Sugar-Free: Hard-boiled eggs are naturally low in sugar, containing less than a gram per serving.

We use propane to cook, and when I wanted to boil eggs, found the tank was out. Found this solution, and am so pleased with the results. Thanks for your gifted cooking ideas. Rose Royce

      This is a great idea!
Does salt in the water make the eggs salty?
Have you tried it without the salt, and if so, how did that change things?
      Thanks!

Hi, I could not taste the salt at all. It just helps the eggs peel better I think

Do the eggs need to be in a single layer or can I stack them up in the crock pot? Thanks!

That is a great idea, love using the crock pot for so many things. I bought an electric egg cooker, named Henrietta the hen, and it does a great job of making hard boiled eggs. If you want eggs faster, it is the way to go.

What a great idea! I"m the family deviled egg maker and boiling/peeling the eggs is the part I hate the most. I'll have to try this out and see if it makes it any easier for me. Thanks!
