Spicy Buffalo Pretzels

I love appetizer and snack recipes I can make before an event. These Buffalo Pretzels make a big batch of pretzels that taste amazing!

The buffalo sauce adds a great bite of flavor. These Buffalo Pretzel Bites will pair perfectly with a plate of vegetables for an easy appetizer perfect for game day events.

You could even make a giant charcuterie board with these buffalo pretzel pieces, veggies, blue cheese dressing, celery sticks, and more!

Go wild and pair them with a buffalo chicken dip so you have all the buffalo sauce recipes present. LOL!

I made these in August and honestly wished it was January when the kitchen heated up from the oven. I am going to have to make these again when the weather turns cold.

We have been working on a ton of new recipes trying to make up new appetizers before the holidays and game day weekends are here.

Ingredients List

  • Franks Buffalo Hot Sauce
  • Pretzels
  • Butter
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder

Franks Hot Sauce - We like the Buffalo Hot Sauce, but you could use any flavor you enjoy.

Pretzels - We used pretzel nuggets, but this recipe would work on pretzel sticks or regular pretzels. Make sure they are hard pretzels so they bake correctly.

Seasoning - You can easily switch out the spices and replace them with a packet of Hidden Valley Dry Ranch dressing mix to make Buffalo Ranch Pretzels.

For additional flavor feel free to add in a tablespoon of Worcestershire Sauce, a pinch of salt, or another seasoning.

Equipment Needed

Small saucepan

Large Bowl - Make sure the bowl is large enough to handle all of the pretzels and stir them into the hot sauce mix.

Wooden Spoons - I like to use flat wooden spoons to stir the pretzels but you could also use tongs.

Large Baking Sheet - We are huge fans of these baking sheets that have sides. You don't have to worry; you are going to remove the pretzels from the oven and have the slide right off.

Parchment Paper - If you don't have parchment you could also line the baking sheet with aluminum foil.

Heat resistant potholders - A couple of years ago we had a fire scare when we didn't realize we had turned a burner on and a cloth potholder caught fire. Thankfully we walked by the kitchen and saw the smoke and were able to get it out ourselves. Since then we have only used these heat-resistant potholders.

How to make Spicy Buffalo Pretzels

Step 1 - Heat butter and hot sauce together in a sauce pan over low heat until butter has melted. Add in seasoning and stir to combine.

Step 2 - Add pretzels to a large bowl and pour hot sauce/butter mixture over the pretzels. Stir the pretzels in the sauce until all pieces are well coated.

Step 3 - Spread pretzels on a parchment lined baking sheet evenly. Bake in 10 minute increments stirring after every 10 minutes.

The pretzels will look wet!

Step 4 - Remove pretzels from the oven and let cool on the pan. The pretzels may still look wet at this point. They will harden as they sit and cool.

Do not stir them while they are cooling off! They may be soft enough to break apart before hardening.

Recipe Tips

If you are having a large party you can easily double this recipe and make two platters of pretzel bites. You will need two baking sheets at minimum.
