Candy Corn Jello Shots

I am so excited to share these layered Halloween Candy Corn Shots. I have been meaning to share these for years and finally slowed down and photographed them before we served them for a Halloween party.

These layered jello shots are the perfect treats for a Halloween party. You can make them with the easy to follow instructions below ahead of your party so they are ready when you need them.

A fun cocktail twist for your spooky festivities.

Candy Corn Jello shots ingredients, gelatin, vanilla vodka, sweetened condensed milk, orange jello, and lemon jello

Ingredients

This is a quick overview of the simple ingredients that you'll need to make Candy Corn Jello Shots! Specific measurements and step-by-step instructions are included in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Orange Jell-O
  • Clear Unflavored Gelatin
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • Yellow Jell-O - Lemon
  • Vodka

Garnish - Candy Corn, whipped cream, sprinkles

Vodka - You can use any flavor of vodka you enjoy. We used vanilla vodka but also love making these vodka jello shots with whipped cream vodka or other flavor vodka including plain vodka.

If you are not a fan of vodka you can also use coconut rum, tequila, or other clear liquor. We tend to skip using whiskey so it doesn't add additional color to the shot.

Jell-O - You can use any Jello flavor that fits the orange, yellow, and white colors. Just make sure the flavors taste good together.

Equipment Needed

Jell-O Shot Cups - We suggest using two-ounce Jell-O shot cups. You can make these in regular shot glasses but will need to make sure guests can enjoy them. Tall shot glasses can be difficult without a small spoon.

Measuring Cups

Whisk

OXO angled jiggers - these are our go-to measuring tools for cocktails. They work perfectly for pouring in layers for cocktails. You want something with a spout to easily pour with.

Heat resistant microwave safe bowl - We use a 4 cup Pyrex large measuring cup, and it works fantastic. You can also use a small saucepan and heat the water on the stovetop.

9X13 baking dish - We put the Jello Shot Cups in a casserole dish to help keep them contained and catch any splashed that may happen.

How to make layered Candy Corn Jello Shots

I've included complete instructions in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here's a quick version.

Step 1 - Decide which order you want to do the layers.

It is up to you if you want to have the shots start or end with yellow or orange. We ended up doing orange then white then yellow so you can see the clear lines between the colors.

When we made the in the order you see on the actual candy corn candy they all sort of merged together. The yellow and orange blurred and the layers were not really clear.

Prep your Jello Shot Cups in a tray or baking dish so they don't slide around and any spills are captured by the tray.

Plan time to place in the refrigerator to chill.

Step 2 - Orange Layer

For the orange layer we use orange gelatin. Combine boiling water and orange jello packets and stir until combined. Add in vodka and stir. Pour into jello shot cups about ⅓ of the way up the cup.

Try to pour evenly across all of the plastic cups. Place in the refrigerator to set. Make sure they are fully set before adding the white layer or the colors will mix together.

We use an angled measuring cup to pour the vodka jello shot mixture into the plastic cups.

Step 3 - White Layer

Combine boiling water with unflavored gelatin in a bowl. Make sure all of the gelatin powder blooms and mixes with the water before moving to the next step.

If the gelatin does not combine your white layer will not set properly.

Combine sweetened condensed milk to the gelatin mixture and stir to combine. Add in vodka and let cool before pouring into the jello shot cups to create the 2nd white gelatin layer.

Transfer to the fridge and let cool completely until set.

Step 4 - Yellow Layer

For the yellow layer we use lemon gelatin to make the yellow layered jello shots.

Combine boiling water and lemon Jello in a bowl and stir until dissolved. Add in vodka and stir together.

Carefully pour yellow jell-o on top of the white layers until the jello shot cup is close to full.

Place the tray of jello shots in the fridge and allow to set before serving.

Preparation and Storage

Make Ahead –These Jello Shots can be made a couple of days ahead of time. Just wait to garnish them until serving.

Storage – Store with the lids on the Jello Shot Cups in the fridge.

Freezing/How to freeze – We do not suggest freezing Jello. The texture will change and it will not taste as great.

Recipe Variations

Substitutions -

Vegetarian Option - Plant based gelatin can be used to make these vegetarian

Vegan Option ––Vegan Jello mixes can be used to make these vegan.

Gluten Free -Jello is considered Gluten Free

Alcohol Free Option –  Non-Alcoholic Vodka can be used to make a NA Jello Shot.

Smaller Serving Size – The serving size on the recipe card below can be change to make a smaller serving.

Larger Group/More servings – This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled for large events.

Sugar Free – Sugar Free Jello can be used to lower the sugar content.

Recipe Tips

Make sure each layer is completely set before adding the next one to prevent the colors from bleeding together.

If you are making multiple trays of jello shots you can layer the trays on top of each other to save space in the fridge. Add lids evenly to the bottom layer of jello shots and then place the next tray on top of the lids.

To change the amount of alcohol in the Jell-o Shots you can decrease the cups of vodka and replace it with cold water.

This recipe can be doubled or tripled if you are making red white and blue jello shots for a party or event.

We do not use any food coloring with this recipe. You could use yellow food color, orange food coloring to help enhance the color for a more vivid color or change unflavored gelatin to the correct colors.
